Description
This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. The operational hours of this program are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and include applicable ½ hour paid meal break.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities:
- Provide input into planning and assist with the implementation of appropriate aged-based activities according to skill and learning levels that promote social interaction and personal development.
- Provide feedback on child’s development.
- Ensure that all information about children, family, staff, visitors and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are confidentially secured.
- Assist with effective risk management; monitoring food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provides emergency first aid and completes reports and file incident reports as required.
- Role models appropriate behaviors and attitudes supporting growth and promoting change for the child and family.
- Work with the Assistant Program Director to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements
- Ensure full compliance with child protection legislation and intervene when necessary.
- Report any property damage, mechanical breakdown of equipment and/or repairs needed in the program to the Assistant Program Director, Team Leader, and/or Property Manager.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands:
The performance of the job requires frequently lifting/moving equipment and children, room
set-up, occasionally intervening in physical confrontations, story telling, cleaning (of the facility/equipment), and putting up wall displays. The job requires frequent movement up and down from a seated position on the floor and/or from a seated position on furniture, that sits low to the floor.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
- Lifting, kneeling and standing for long periods of time.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
- Early Childhood Educator Diploma preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience, including, experience working with younger children
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
- Current Immunization
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry may be required.
- Fluent French verbal & written communication skills an asset.
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
