        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator is passionate about the spiritual development and well-being of children and youth.

The successful candidate will ensure successful provision of a discipleship and outreach ministry to the children and youth from Heritage Park Temple as well as our local community, toward the goal of integrated mission and will be expected to participate fully in the life of this church as part of our worshipping congregation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Church programming:

  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the church (includes administration, communication to leaders, acquiring resources, volunteer recruitment);
  • Plans and leads some programming, supports leaders as needed;
  • Participates and provides leadership development;
  • May attend and/or chair committee meetings as relevant;
  • Plans and conducts creative worship services for children and families; attends Sunday worship services and fully participates as part of our church congregation;
  • Connects with kids and families outside of programming to aid in building trusting relationships;
  • Attends divisional events including overnight retreats as chaperone

Community Services programming:

  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the community (includes communication to leaders, acquiring resources, volunteer recruitment);
  • Supervises Kids Kamp program including helping with hiring and training staff, program evaluations, ensuring that Kids Kamp budget is well managed and handling any parental concerns;
  • Oversees Kids Klub program, including program planning, and volunteer coordinating and support;
  • Works alongside CFS director in school partnerships when applicable;
  • May attend committee or community meetings;
  • Assists with client assistance and registration for seasonal programming;
  • Connects with kids and families outside of programming to aid in building trusting relationships;
  • Maintains appropriate records for program registration; helps to ensure volunteers have completed the necessary checks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

College or University level studies.

*NOTE: You may be required to provide validated educational documentation.

Education/Certifications:

  • A diploma or degree in a related field (youth work or Christian ministry designation strongly preferred) or can demonstrate that he/she has obtained an equivalent body of knowledge through other training and experience.

Experience:

No less than 1 year of prior related experience, including, experience working with children and youth:

  • Experience in developing, implementing maintaining and adapting children and youth programming with a focus of spiritual formation
  • Experience working with children and families in a supportive manner
  • Experience giving oversight and direction to volunteers and staff with an ability to communicate, motivate, train and empower volunteers in the ministry of the Church

  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Must be efficient in general computer skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to exercise good judgement
