Children’s Librarian

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 hours bi-weekly / Days / Evenings / Weekends (Commencing immediately for one year)This position provides professional leadership, management, and community outreach for children’s library services at the Confederation Centre Public Library. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating goals, objectives, programs and services to meet the needs of children and young adults.Duties include but are not limited to: – Develops, facilitates and manages programs and services for children and young adults at the library in Charlottetown;- Programming responsibilities include Summer Reading, Family literacy, author visits, outreach, community engagement, etc; – Prepares, schedules and presents library programs for children and families including infants, toddlers, preschool age, school age and teenagers;- Provides leadership in developing programming initiatives and provides guidance and support to staff in program delivery;- Manages operations of the Children’s Library including training directing work of staff, and , providing guidance for application of policy;- Develops partnerships with community organizations and agencies to develop and deliver youth services in the library and as community outreach programs;- Seek opportunities to participate on community boards, committees and collaborate where possible with communities to ensure effective delivery of youth services;- Communicates children’s library services to communities through oral and written presentations;- Provides circulation, reader’s advisory and reference service in the Children’s library and other service points and serves as senior staff person as necessary;- Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: – Masters of Library and Information Science.- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered. – Experience working in a public library including front line customer service.- Experience delivering children’s and young adult library programs and services.- Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.- Demonstrated initiative, leadership and creativity.- Experience working with community groups.- Excellent oral and written communication skills.- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.- Working knowledge of emerging technology including tablets and e-readers.Other Qualifications: – Bilingualism would be considered and asset.Preference will be given to the Unclassified Division as per the UPSE Civil Collective Agreement.Please Note: Please ensure the application clearly demonstrates how you meet the noted qualifications as applicants will be screened based on the information provided.
