        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Children’s Outreach Assistant shares and participates in the planning and delivery of children’s and youth programs, aiding in supervising and encouraging children to participate in program activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountabilities:

 

Program Development

  • Share and participate in the responsibility for planning, preparing, and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that promote spiritual growth in children and young teens.
  • Provide supervision to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children during programs, recognizing and responding to the needs of each child.
  • Participates in program development

 

Evaluation

  • Observe and monitor children’s and young teen programs.

 

Administration & Reporting

  • Assist with recording and submitting stats.
  • Ensure that all information about children, family etc. is strictly confidential.
  • Model appropriate and positive behaviors and attitudes for the children.
  • Ensure effective risk management; health and safety of the classroom environment, monitoring food safety, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance.
  • Share responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assist with toy/equipment disinfecting, and with providing an organized and clutter-free environment

Perform other position related duties as required.

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children/youth with special needs.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification
  • Safe Food Handling Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain certification)
  • A valid Driver’s License is requir

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with children/youth.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of the needs of children
  • Current and demonstrated knowledge in: Fundamental concepts and theories of child development, children’s mental health, and parenting skills are essential.
  • Skills pertinent to developing and facilitating children’s programs.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products i.e., Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility at all times
  • Attentive listening skills
  • Willingness to pray with/for children and young teens
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Handle children with special needs, problem solving, distractive children as well as interacting with children
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a part-time contract position, commencing in November 2021 up until March 31, 2022 at 10 hours/week. Contract may be renewed based upon funding
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements. Typically 2-3 days per week (including Friday evenings & Sunday mornings) but could change depending on program needs.
  • Position requires frequent movement up and down from a seated position on the floor and/or seated position on furniture that sits low to the floor. Lifting, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
  • Incumbent may be required to work outside in the community, virtually or remotely.
