        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Responsible as a group work leader, provides direction and checking results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote, coordinate and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers
  • Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including, scheduling of staff, counting, reporting, and maintaining records of donations received.
  • Will participate in recruitment of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers
  • Orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers
  • Coordinate the schedule for kettle worker staff/volunteers and responds to emergency absences, etc.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites
  • Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations.
  • May deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation
  • Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, professional manner.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
  • Post campaign; organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various kettle locations.
  • Perform other position related duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary position.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel is associated with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed High School or equivalent.
  • Prior related experience would be a definite asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

 

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Experience in office administration.
  • Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
