Required
Strong familiarity and resonance with MCC’s work, both internationally and locally
Knowledge and understanding of MCC’s constituent churches (Mennonite and Be in Christ)
Ability to build strong relational connections with MCC’s constituent pastors and church community

Job Synopsis Working closely with the Communications team, Program team, and Executive office, this salaried full time position (37.5 hours per week) oversees both the strategic development and implementation of engagement strategies and relationship building efforts between MCC and our constituent churches. As time allows, the secondary focus will be on building community connections, beyond the churches. This is a one year contract role.
Through the engagement with the churches, this role helps to facilitate the development of crucial resources for MCC, including funds, material resources, and personnel (both volunteer and staff).
MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in 51 countries with 511 partners, 1134 staff and 40,000 volunteers
Challenges
Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning and Development
- Develop and implement an overall annual strategic plan for church engagement in Ontario, with supporting Mennonite and Be in Christ churches, as well as other potential churches beyond our constituency.
- Support MCCO’s engagement efforts with our conservative church communities (Old Order, Old Colony, Markham Waterloo, etc.)
- Develop and monitor an annual plan for the Executive Director and his engagement with denominational leaders of MCCO’s constituent churches
Relationship Building
- Develop and nurture good relationships with pastors, being both strategic and responsive in opportunities
- Through presentations and conversations, invite congregations and individuals to engage in local and international MCC work through giving of their time, advocacy, finances and material resources
Resourcing
- Assist and report to Communications staff in arranging MCC speakers, events or resource distribution in region
- Be aware of outgoing and returning workers in the region and provide support as needed and feasible, in cooperation with Human Resources staff
- Provide support for churches who are engaging with SALT students
- Respond to inquiries about MCC, referring to other staff as needed or appropriate
- Support international staff and partner itineration
- As time permits, represent MCC to interested individuals, agencies, community organizations, and businesses in the region, sharing MCC’s mission and values
Collaboration
- Meet quarterly with MCCO Church Engagement Advisory group for purpose of reporting, coordinating, and planning – ensuring that the needs of the whole organization are being represented. (Advisory group made up of Communications and Events Senior Manager, Program Director, Human Resources Director, Executive Director and Associate Executive Director.)
Other
- Adhere to company policies and legal regulations
- Comply with the risk management policy and procedures and foster a culture where risks are identified and mitigated.

- Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, Peace Conference and Staff Development Day
- Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
- Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ’s unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized
- Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC’s values, articulating the importance of MCC’s criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCC
