Summary
Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre is currently looking to welcome a Clinical Counsellor to our team. We believe in and apply a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach in all that we do. We work with people who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, and/or more recent experiences of sexual and gender-based violence including sexual harassment and trafficking. We believe in the resiliency of our clients, and honour who they are, as well as where they are on their healing journey.
Description
Position Summary:
- Individual Counselling: To provide counselling to adult survivors, of all genders, of sexual and gender-based violence in the context of a mid-term counselling model (10-14 sessions). This will include establishing a therapeutic relationship, working collaboratively with the person to identify their needs and develop a plan of service, providing psychosocial education, and applying therapeutic techniques and recognized best-practice models to support the person seeking service in achieving their therapeutic goals.
- Group Facilitation: to design, deliver, and evaluate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups to meet identified clinical needs.
- Crisis Counselling: To intervene, as needed, in crisis situations, by providing support and assistance (by phone, text, online, and/or in person) through supportive counselling, consultation, and debriefing.
- Consultation and Support: To participate in team meetings, clinical supervision and consultation, and ongoing professional development.
- Documentation: To complete thorough reports for all new clients, and keep accurate and up-to-date notes on all interactions with clients for ongoing continuity of care and for legal purposes, using the SUMAC client database.
- Ethics and Confidentiality: To use professional judgement and ethical practice, and endure compliance with associated professional regulatory body policies, as well as compliance with the Personal Health and Information Privacy Act (PHIPA).
- Student Supervision: As needed, supervise or mentor student placements including BSW, SSW or equivalents
- Remove Delivery: Due to COVID-19, most service is being offered remotely. We will resume in-person delivery when it is safe to do so.
Skills, Knowledge, and Specifications:
- Masters degree in social work, psychology, or counselling or Bachelors degree with relevant experience.
- One to Three (1-3) years of direct clinical experience.
- Demonstrated competencies in and knowledge of feminist counselling theories, trauma- and violence-informed practice, and trauma treatment models and approaches.
- Ability to assess and manage crisis situation, and to exercise good judgement and respond appropriately and effectively in stressful situations.
- Understanding of the intersectionalities that contribute to sexual and gender-based violence and the impact of these lived experiences on survivors, including knowledge of and experience with decolonizing and anti-oppressive/anti-racist frameworks, and queer theory.
- Commitment to ethics and standards of professional practice.
- Member or eligible for membership in a relevant professional regulatory body (ie. OCSWSSW, CRPO, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team and with collaborative partnerships.
- Strong organizational, time management, and comfort with office technology (ie. MS Office, databases, etc.)
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
- Current and valid driver’s license with access to reliable vehicle is required.
- Up-to-Date criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening required.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to deliver excellent service via remote platforms
