Biomedical Zone

The Biomedical Zone is a physician-led, hospital-based health technology incubator in downtown Toronto. Our supportive, dynamic environment allows entrepreneurs and students to engage with like-minded innovators and multidisciplinary stakeholder, while accessing dedicated clinical expertise and entrepreneurial resources from our partnerships with Ryerson University and Unity Health Toronto. The Biomedical Zone offers the resources needed to accelerate product development from early prototype stages to commercialization. Our aim is to create scalable, sustainable healthcare solutions with global reach.

The Opportunity

The Clinical Education & Engagement Coordinator will help refine the Biomedical Zone model of iterative validation, in which resident companies and student teams go through a rigorous programme validating the clinical, business, and technological components of their solution.

The Clinical Education Coordinator will:
Focus on the design and development of pedagogical teaching and experiential learning strategies for web based courses and in-person programming

Be responsible for the iterative development, delivery, and improvement of the Biomedical Zone’s Business Acceleration & Clinical Engagement (BACE) Program.

Develop educational content and applied learning tools/resources and lead BACE Program webinars on healthcare related topics.

Work collaboratively with the Biomedical Zone team, faculty, and industry partners to develop, produce and deliver learning materials that apply the concepts of experiential learning.

Monitor the clinical validation and scientific engagement projects of Biomedical Zone resident startups, using lean methodologies to support the companies as they conduct important pre-market validation.

Develop ecosystem engagement frameworks for the Biomedical Zone, which will be used as a resource internally to help startups. Further, they will help companies identify and engage Key Opinion Leaders, Principal Investigators, healthcare stakeholders; support and manage clinician-innovator relationships, understand technical requirements, and conduct data collection.

Oversee, monitor, and advise startup progress from a clinical lens and work closely with the Venture & Accounts Coordinator to ensure the startups are completing both clinical and business activities.

Key responsibilities

Leads the creation and delivery of online and in-person education and programming at the Biomedical Zone.

Evaluates and continuously improves on content and other learning elements, and works with stakeholders (both startups and student teams) to apply the content

Oversees course development, individually and collaboratively

Educational ecosystem development and healthcare content curation

Qualifications

Successful completion of a Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Health Innovation, Business, Science, Public Health or any other related field is required.

A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in clinical or academic environment, preferably in the health care innovation ecosystem at a systems-level experience with the following requirements:

Demonstrated experience in contributing to learning experience design and/or healthcare education with current media, technology, practices and pedagogy that best supports engaging and effective learning experiences for adult learners and storyboarding.

Demonstrated experience in curating a network of health innovation stakeholders

Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills

Superior organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload

Professionalism and self-motivation

Superior personal and program time/detail management skills

Strong interpersonal relationship skills to collaborate closely with internal and external partners and gather information and experiences from a variety of sources in order to facilitate engaging online learning, prepare for events, tasks and showcases.

Solid oral and written communication skills, including leading presentations and webinars to resident companies and student members on healthcare topics

Able to work independently and as part of a team

Experience working within the startup ecosystem considered an asset

Demonstrated expertise in new digital media and learning experience design.

Proficient knowledge of different multimedia authoring tools and other learning experience development applications.

Working knowledge of universal design principles to develop accessible and inclusive learning experiences, to conduct needs analyses and define potential learning strategies.

Proficient knowledge of web and media design technology.
