Clinical Resource Hygienist
Duties
Support the Dental Hygiene Diploma program in the Faculty of Health and Human Services. Work flexible hours (including evenings and Saturdays) according to student and instructor requirements throughout the academic year.
Attend clinical/lab/seminar sessions as scheduled to provide verbal and written feedback to students regarding their developing clinical skills. Work in collaboration with faculty to maintain and update teaching resources/tools in regards to clinical skills and techniques. Provide clinical demonstrations in collaboration with faculty.
Provide, upon referral from a faculty member, remediation to students to assist them to achieve safe practice of dental hygiene skills, consolidate critical thinking competencies, and to help overcome challenges related to specific dental hygiene skills in a non-evaluative environment. Work with students on a 1:1 basis or, if appropriate, in small groups. Provide feedback to students and faculty, but not be responsible for summative student evaluation. Remediation may occur within or outside clinical times.
Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications
Diploma in dental hygiene from an appropriately accredited institution. Relevant undergraduate degree. Minimum five years recent full-time (or equivalent) clinical experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Current practicing license (Dental Hygiene Practitioner [C]) as a member in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia or out-of-province equivalent registration and eligibility for licensure. Demonstrated leadership and effective interpersonal and team skills. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication. Demonstrated self-direction and initiative. Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology.
Must have current CPR-HCP or Basic Life Support.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications
Provincial Instructor Diploma. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Relevant Master’s degree.
