This position provides assistance, to participants who seek support to meet their basic human needs. This position provides guidance and support as part of a team in the areas of: Food Bank, Christmas Hampers, Kettle Campaign, vouchers for Thrift Store participants, community liaison, Emergency Disaster Services, and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of clients and the community.
- 21-35 hours per week
- 3-5 day/week
The Salvation Army requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to provide proof of full vaccination. Requests for exemption from the policy due to medical reasons or other grounds protected by provincial human rights legislation will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with Clients to assess their needs through our intake processes and client management systems
- Pack Hampers and issue vouchers as needed to meet the needs of clients
- Ensure the organization and inventory levels of the Food Bank
- Work with community partners
- Volunteer Management
- Assist with Christmas Hamper Program
- Coordinate Kettle Campaign
- Provide Emergency Disaster Services as part of a team
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Completion of High School
Experience:
- Minimum 2-3 yrs related experience including working directly with marginalized people
- Minimum 2-3 yrs in Volunteer Management
- Experience working in a Food Bank
- Experience in office administration, computers and database entry
- Experience working in a client focused environment
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- Education verification
- This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable drivers abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof upon being hired.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Knowledge of community-based resources is an asset
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Ability to provide a valid Manitoba Class “5” Driver’s license, own vehicle, and current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion
- Must be able to establish good working relationships with community partners
- Ability to lift weights of up to 50 lbs
- Ability and willingness to provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening and The Salvation Army Abuse Registry that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills – clear and simple to understand
- Effective organizational and time management skills – self-motivated and disciplined self-starter
- Ability and willingness to adhere to, support, and promote The Salvation Army’s mission, vision, and values
