        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Community Ministries Director B provides holistic leadership to a broad range of ever-changing, multi-function, community-based programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values, and standards.

Hours:

  • Full Time, Temporary
  • 40 hours per week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves actively as a member of the senior management team for the Corps/Centre, and oversees the Community Ministries team
  • Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
  • Gives oversight to all community ministries programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives
  • Shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients, staff and volunteers, endeavoring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking clients to the church family and church programs where possible)
  • Makes effective recommendations on the hiring, orientation, training, evaluation, recognition, discipline and termination in concert with Territorial standards; submits and acts on incident reports; deals with complaints
  • Develops recommendations for staff and volunteer development, handles recruitment, orientation, performance management and terminations with supervisor’s approval
  • Engages in ongoing planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate
  • Works with the management team in the preparation of an operating budget for the community ministries programs and monitors financial performance accordingly
  • Contributes to the development of policies and procedures for Community Ministries programs in consultation with senior management and/or frontline supervisors
  • Ensures that programs meet all contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements
  • Networks with non-Salvation Army government and community social assistance and service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients
  • May implement a local Emergency Response Plan, assisting with provincial/federal emergencies as required
  • May coordinate marketing strategies to ensure continued Thrift Store revenue growth
  • May coordinate annual fundraising efforts (Red Shield Appeal, Christmas Kettle Campaign)
  • Provides visibility for The Salvation Army within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc.
  • May participate as a regular member of the Community Council
  • Performs other duties as assigned

NOTE:  Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College.
  • Universal Precautions
  • Foodsafe training

Experience:

  • One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience in a wide range of social service programs, managing people and resources, and communicating orally and in writing with government officials and/or funders

Preferred Skills/Capabilities:

  • The performance of the job requires attentive listening, moderate attention to computer work, dealing with figures, and high attention to policy/strategic development, and proposal/accreditation preparation.
