Description
The Community Ministries Outreach Worker will engage the homeless and transiently homeless population in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area to build trust and professional relationships to help them seek suitable and sustainable housing. They will support these individuals with complex service needs by facilitating engagement with appropriate community agencies to meet identified needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage indigenous individuals who are homeless or transiently homeless to provide:
- Opportunity to build trusting relationships.
- Work with the community to develop a pool of volunteers to aid in the efficient running of the program.
- Meals and other living essentials and necessities to homeless and transiently homeless individuals.
- Client advocacy with other helping agencies.
- Referral and follow-up with clients to helping agencies (i.e. mental health, housing, educational, social, etc.)
- Work with community agencies to provide supports through a concrete plan of action with clients.
- Ensure the proper collection of data to provide accurate reporting to funders and stakeholders.
- Attend meetings as requested and required.
TERM: Contractual (one year); 30 hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
- Be a post-secondary graduate in a related field of study (preferably social services) or college diploma program or lived experience; equivalencies will be considered using combined training and work experience in community services.
- Experience working with the homeless and transiently homeless community considered an asset.
- Be able to work varied hours depending on schedule as work hours will include evening activities and outreach.
- Possess a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Driver’s License.
- Be able to maintain a high standard of confidentiality
- Obtain a Criminal Police/Vulnerable Section Check and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt and Acknowledgement Form
