Description
To coordinate and implement the Community Nutrition and Nutritious Outreach programs of Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre. The purpose is to strengthen families in our community by offering programs that meet the practical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and families. Healthy eating, balanced with a healthy lifestyle and thrifty budget are key components of these programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accountabilities:
- Plan healthy cooking activities for program participants, in-person and/or online (zoom or recorded).
- Be educated and informed by the Canada’s Food Guide.
- Ensure that all activities are consistent with healthy food choices that are affordable.
- Be sensitive to the different dietary needs (physical, religious etc) of program participants, research and plan accordingly.
- Record/video classes to be posted online (website, Facebook etc,).
- Organize all supplies for the Nutritious Kitchen program.
- Document all attendees and keep track of recipes.
- Conduct sessional reviews at the end of each workshop session and evaluate programming based upon feedback.
- Take part in Region of Waterloo PEER training.
- Build positive relationships with local community centers.
- Perform other position related duties as mutually agreed upon.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a part time position at 6 hours per week.
- Shifts may vary according to requirements of responsibilities.
- Normal work location is 75 Tilley Drive, Kitchener, ON N2E 3T1
- Alternate locations could include Country Hills and Williamsburg Community Centers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Completed High School or equivalent.
- Prior related experience is an asset.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience in kitchen safety and an enjoyment of cooking.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Good interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
- Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
