        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

JOB PURPOSE:

The Community Outreach Worker assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

  • Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
  • Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviours of the client/family
  • Identifies/recruits potential participants for the Pathway of Hope program and is the primary case worker for this framework.
  • Assists in the organization, maintenance and program of the community meal ministry
  • Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy
  • Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records
  • May provide budgeting guidance to clients, referrals and advocacy
  • Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
  • Networks and refers to The Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, when necessary
  • May develop and conduct workshops for clients/families, as appropriate
  • May direct and supervise volunteers within assigned programs
  • May organize or participate in seasonal or special events/programs (i.e. Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, Fundraising, Kettle Campaign, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

The successful job applicant will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful applicant will hold/have:

  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • **See Precautionary Measures**
  • Bilingual is an asset but not required

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of loading/unloading trucks, sorting donated goods, occasional computer work, intervening in physical confrontations, and leading workshops (if part of role).

The incumbent is required to lift more that 20 pounds

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires attentive listening (intake/guidance to clients), and occasional computer work.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:

The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources:

The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees/volunteers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a community ministries office, at a food bank, or in a warehouse.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Work-related stress
  • Dealing with angry and abusive people

The incumbent may have little to no travel required.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate risk of injury or illnesses due to:

  • Physical attacks by others (and verbal) (e.g. Disgruntled clients acting out physically or verbally)
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Moving objects
  • Sharp objects

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • Foodsafe Training
  • Take Protective Barriers
