HOURS:
- 2 days/week (Casual with Regular Hours)
- Saturday & Sunday: 12:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to cook in a HomeStyle fashion and bake quality food from scratch consistently.
- Able to organize and have food prepared on time for meal service.
- Prepares and tastes meals including meats, fish, vegetables, soups, sauces, desserts, sandwiches, salads.
- Able to prepare alternates for special diets – low fat, reduced salt, diabetic, allergies.
- Understands the importance of consistency in special diets for the health of tenants.
- Works accurately in imperial or metric
- Demonstrates flexibility in making substitutions in menus if circumstances require it.
- Able to provide meals at unscheduled times if requested by the tenant.
- Does baking of muffins, cookies, and other snack foods.
- Can cook and bake from mixes and recipes.
- Does preparation for the next day.
- Adheres to principles/directives of Food Safe in storage, handling, and preparation of food.
- Consistently keeps work areas clean and sanitized
- Ensures that meals are of high quality and well presented.
- Accepts deliveries and ensures that orders are correct and properly stored.
- Understands the importance of making sure the correct meal is served when requested to do so by the Assisted Living Manager, the Independent Living Manager, or their designate.
- Understands Assisted Living concept and Independent Living and the difference between the two.
- Operates all equipment safely as per procedures.
- Works cooperatively with other kitchen and food service staff to ensure smooth, professional delivery of service.
- Can take direction from Food Services Manager or designate.
- Do ordering as requested by the Food Services Manager or designate.
- Supervises the Dietary Aides when the Food Services Managers or designate is not available.
- Notifies Food Services Manager of any concerns with tenants, staff, inventory, recipes, or menu items.
- Responsible for making sure items are taken out of the freezer and prepared in time for meal service
- Direct other Dietary Aides in portioning or prep of items for meal service.
- Monitors and records food temperatures during storage, preparation, cooking, and service all phases of foods served. (HACCAP standards are to be met)
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
- High school graduate.
- Cook’s Papers (1-year course)
- Five years experience in quantity cooking preferably in the service industry.
- Certificate in Food Safe Levels 1, Level 2 is preferred.
- WHIMS certificate.
Preferred Skills/Capabilities:
- Excellent oral and communication in English.
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to read and implement duties and work routines.
- Able to support the mission statement of Southview Heights and Terrace.
