        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountabilities:

  1. General:
  • As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Support Services Manager
  • Prepare and serve all meals in accordance with menu provided on his/her shift. Menu changes permitted only with the Support Services Manager approval.
  • Assist in preparation of grocery list.
  • Required to receive and check all items delivered from suppliers during his/her shift in the absence of the Support Services Manager, and deal with any problems in this regard. Store items accordingly.
  • Ensure that all food donations received on shift are brought to the attention of the Family Services Manager.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service training
  • Ensure that all work areas are clean prior to completion of every meal.
  • Adhere to proper standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods while performing duties.
  • Adhere to fire and health and safety standards pertaining to the kitchen and other areas of the Centre.
  • Adhere to the guidelines of proper food safety at all times.
  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope
  • To treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care, caution and act in the best interest of the employer at all times
  1. Health and Safety
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with security, identifying any safety and security needs
  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations, to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards and dangers, work as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment, to report workplace injuries or illness

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Provide an original copy of a Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector screening secured through either the National Canadian Police Information Centre or through a local police detachment; Note: A satisfactory criminal background check is required
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
  • Normal hours of work – may vary as per operational requirements and responsibilities, and includes a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma; diploma/education in food services is an asset
  • Good knowledge of nutrition and safe food handling certification is required
  • Minimum two years-experience in residential cooking
  • Must be physically able to work long periods of time on their feet and to lift objects up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Understanding of, support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army and a willingness to adhere to them

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to work independently
