        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

This is a temporary, full-time position based upon 40 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

 

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Start Date:  May 1, 2021

End Date:  February 28, 2022

The operational hours of this facility are 24/7

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and serve attractive, nutritious, tasty meals, according to the prepared menu plans, ensuring that meals are prepared and stored in advance when aware of an upcoming absence. Arrange for any special dietary needs of clients and ensure that these are followed through
  • Prepare an ongoing list of food supplies needed according to menus
  • Ensure that Department of Health and Fire regulations are adhered to in the kitchen and food storage areas
  • Maintain cleanliness of all equipment, drawers, and cupboards
  • Receive, check, and store food supplies when they are delivered. Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and food storage areas (pantry and freezers)
  • Report to appropriate staff any client behaviors that is not in keeping with the program of The Lighthouse
  • Prepare food orders as needed, submitting these to the Director for purchasing
  • Report equipment that needs repair or replacement to supervisor
  • Whenever possible, prepare the meals when there are anticipated absences
  • Maintain high nutritional value based on Canada’s Food Guide
  • Prepare all snacks required throughout the week and weekend
  • Provide supervision of volunteers
  • Be a functioning team member in support of the Halton Lighthouse Mission

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Secondary School completion or equivalent
  • One year to three years of prior related experience, with a least one year of institutional cooking experience.
  • Safe Food Handler’s and Current First Aid & CPR Certifications are required.
  • Ability to lift/move 25 lbs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of English language
  • Good organizational skills, self-motivated and disciplined
  • Experience/Working knowledge in word processing; spread sheet use
  • Knowledge of Canada Food Guide
  • Able to work with and facilitate volunteers
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Ability to demonstrate a supportive, respectful, non-judgmental approach to clients
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening (where applicable).
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s License, a current copy of driver’s abstract
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada
