Position: Coordinator – Special Education Services
Salary Range: $ 60,245 – $ 71,842 – Band 4
Location: New Street Education Centre- Special Education Services
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/year.
Effective Date: July 19, 2021
Position Summary:
Responsible for implementing Halton I.P.R.C. Procedures and Ministry Regulations, coordination of the I.P.R.C. process on a regional basis; arranging student transportation in conjunction with the Halton Student Transportation Services for Special Education students; monitoring of self-contained classes and enrollment projections on a regional basis as well as the Special
Education Computer Tracking System – Individual Education Plans; initiating and maintaining an informal tracking system for early screening and for students who are not formally identified; and providing direction to school administrators and staff with regard to the I.P.R.C. process and applications to provincial demonstration schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages the IPRC Process.
Establishes committees for each area
Creates the calendars for IPRC meetings each school year
Works directly with school administrators, special education resource teachers, with regard to process and the legal implications associated with the process.
Monitors the annual review process for each identified student in resource support. Implements the process for reviewing our students in a self-contained placement.
Liaises between school and Superintendent regarding special transportation arrangements.
Responsible for secure storage and coordination of long term storage of all student records
Creates and constantly updates the IPRC process binder, and stays involved in special education needs.
Advises and instructs both teaching and secretarial staff (as appropriate) in the Board’s process regarding Halton’s IPRC process.
Advises and instructs (where applicable and appropriate) all staff who use the IEP Engine.
Manages and coordinates the application process for Halton students applying for a place at one of the Ministry’s demonstration schools.
Instructs on process given to schools, follows-up to ensure timelines and paperwork are complete.
Sets up and attends meetings with the Provincial school
Develops various reports.
Compiles accurate information on the number of exceptional students in Halton for the Ministry count dates of October 31, March 31 and June 30.
Compiles reports regarding number of students identified by ID, grade, gender, etc for Planning,
Budget, Human Resources, and Student Services when required.
Monitors accurate and tracking of all students in self-contained classes in order to produce lists for schools , transportation department and Student Services department members.
Manages talent and financial resources to ensure they are being used effectively, including:
Preparation and monitoring of budgets for the team and related programs.
Management of direct reports by assigning work, setting schedules, resolving problems, and identifying appropriate individual goals aligned with individual capabilities, work requirements, and the School Board’s vision and strategic plans.
Qualifications:
2 year College Diploma
4 years relevant experience
Working knowledge of Trillium Administration System
Previous supervisory experience is an asset
