        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

This is a permanent, part-time position based on 16 hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break. Travel is required.

Shifts: Saturday & Sunday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. 

Operational hours of this facility are 12:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in Admissions Committee Meetings to review Community Assessments and prepare minutes for the same.
  • Prepare case management and sign out files for new arrivals.
  • Conduct intakes with new arrivals: complete the intake form, review the house rules, complete the inventory of belongings, give a tour of the facility, admit the resident to a dorm and complete an initial discussion of release plan.
  • Develop and implement case management of assigned clients; assist clients in establishing goals, monitor progress, and prepare discharge plan.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as compiling and maintaining accurate case files and appropriate documentation related to clients and initiates and any new documentation; complete all reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army including OMS.
  • Facilitate the delivery of program, one-on-one and/or groups.
  • Maintain caseload with regularly scheduled sessions and record keeping on all contacts and sessions as required by policy and procedures.
  • Conduct interviews with applicants at the local Detention Centre and various federal institutions whenever necessary.
  • Complete daily activity record reports for statistical purposes. Complete Psycho-Social Assessments on clients.
  • Write Progress Summary Reports whenever necessary. Assist clients with job search inquiries.
  • Liaise with Correctional Service Canada Staff.
  • Participate in Case Conferences with clients and Parole Officers whenever necessary. Complete incident reports whenever necessary.
  • Participate in Disciplinary Interviews whenever necessary.
  • Contact other social service agencies whenever necessary to provide client referrals. Supervise residents regarding their adherence to house rules and parole conditions.
  • Always maintain client confidentiality. Develop a rapport with the clients. Provide individual counselling to clients re: any issue that may interfere with the reintegration process.
  • Keep updated and current client/resident listings. Complete weekend curfew sheets when necessary.
  • Complete and distribute authorized weekend passes when necessary.
  • Conduct rounds of the CRF Unit regularly throughout shift.
  • Conduct room searches with another staff person if there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe that a client may have contraband in his room.
  • Report violations of parole conditions in accordance with policy. Log pertinent information in the official registers and OMS.
  • Sort, stamp, and file CRF incoming mail and faxes.
  • Ship urinalysis tests to assigned lab for testing when necessary.
  • Record and input monthly statistics whenever necessary.
  • Respond to persons in crisis and utilize de-escalation techniques, if necessary, contact emergency personnel (police, ambulance, etc.)
  • Monitor the activities of the clients and maintain availability for personal, practical, and moral support.
  • Complete other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • College Diploma in Social Services/Corrections and / or combination of education and life related experience in working with marginalized individuals.
  • Completion of Non-Violence Crisis Intervention Training or willingness to obtain.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Training in Naloxone administration and Mental Health First Aid would be assets.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, including experience in front line work in a correctional or social service setting.
