AHS Safe Healthy Environments is looking for a motivated individual holding a Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) in good standing preferably with at least five years’ experience in Environmental Public Health senior leadership. The Safe Healthy Environments South Zone Director provides leadership to an Environmental Public Health team supporting safe and healthy communities through promotion, prevention, and protection. The Director oversees an Environmental Public Health team within the South Zone and contributes to the development of provincial Environmental Public Health projects. The Director implements provincial initiatives in a way that addresses the unique needs of South Zone’s communities. The Director is responsible for an annual budget of $3.5 million. Location is negotiable within the South Zone.

The Director, Environmental Public Health (EPH) South Zone is a leadership role in Population, Provincial Public Health that reports directly to the Executive Director and Lead Medical Officer of Health Safe Healthy Environments Dyad. This position is responsible and accountable for managing an operational team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of Environmental Public Health programs and services in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services in South Zone. The Director EPH South Zone develops and maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders, including Medical Officers of Health, provincial and Zone public health programs to provide operational direction and oversight to related programs and services. The Director EPH South Zone provides direct support and expert counsel to the Executive Director, Safe and Healthy Environments, Provincial Lead Medical Officer(s) of Health Safe Healthy Environments; South Zone Medical Officers of Health and to the SHE Management Team on all aspects of Environmental Public Health. This position provides leadership to highly specialized staff whose work impacts the entire population of Alberta. The Director EPH South Zone has a sound knowledge of the Alberta Public Health Act and its regulations. The Director EPH South Zone is accountable for programs and services that protect the public through: Pandemic response and recovery Disease and Injury control Safe food Safe drinking water Safe recreational water Safe indoor air Healthy environments Safe built environments (Enteric) Notifiable Disease follow-up and reporting Outbreak management CDC surveillance and epidemiology and Other related programs that protect the health of the population

Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a baccalaureate Degree in Environmental Health as well as professional designation or certification from CIPHI.
