Position: Daycare Director

Wage: $27-$35/hr dependent on experience

Hours: 40 hrs/wk. with two evenings per month for staff and board meetings; occasional need for overtime as per operational requirements

Position Objective: To manage the day-to-day operations of Little Blue Daycare efficiently, professionally, and by working as part of a team to create a safe, caring, and educational place for children. Oversee and maintain compliance with the Yukon Childcare Services Daycare requirements and good Society standing. Overseen by a volunteer Board.

Administration & Financial ·

Maintain centre expenses and labour costs within the approved budget. ·

Accounts receivable and payable duties including the collection and documentation enrolment fees and follow-up of outstanding payments; submit family eligibility for subsidies; preparation of business statements, payments and tax receipts; provide accurate and up-to-date accounts information to bookkeeper; approve monthly timesheets, prepare and distribute staff payroll;

Enrollment and registration of children and maintenance of waitlist

Ensure that staff records are kept up to date and remain current (Criminal Checks & Vulnerable Sector). ·

Prepare monthly funding reports including the Daily Operating Grant and Universal Childcare Subsidy

Maintain documentation to support accreditation portfolios and evidence; renewing Society application and Business License with the City of Dawson.

Oversee, liaise and maintain contracts including the Supported Childcare Contract and the Intensive Treatment Space

Make donation requests; report and allocate charitable donations

Identify and submit grant applications, research grant-based projects, gather quotes and identify compliance with CCSU policies; complete and submit final reporting documents

Staff management including supervisory duties, staff meetings, evaluations and hiring/recruitment of new staff; including completion of interview and screening processes (police check and vulnerable sector search, references checked, etc.) before they begin working.

Ensure staff get information and opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills (first aid, fire safety, and food safety course, required courses for higher levels or training). ·

Maintain Little Blue’s policies and procedural documents including staff training manuals and orientation documents, parent handbook and policies, enrollment forms, incident reports; liaise with Board to communicate policy changes, drafts and implementation, and liaise with CCSU Supervisor

Communication

Communicate with families, CCSU, Dawson Societies, the Board and Supervisor to ask and field questions, share information and resources, short-long range plans, updates, child and caregiver concerns and requests; includes daily correspondence re: emails, telephone, social media, newsletter

Maintain ethical, responsible and professional relationship with the families and staff

Maintain confidentiality of daycare related information about the children, families, caregivers, staff and board at all times

Participate in integrated case management with CCSU, CDC, CATS, Children’s Services and the school board as required.

Centre Duties ·

Ensure the physical environment is monitored and maintained to meet fire, regional public health, Ministry of Education safety standards and policies. ·

Ensure the facility and staff continually meet or exceed Childcare Services Unit requirements for licensed child care

Ensure Yukon Childcare Act regulations are adhered to at all times including the provision of support of unit inspector

Ensure the compliance of Environmental Health regulations at all times including coordination of fire inspection and drills, professional development days

Coordinate Fundraising opportunities including communications and volunteer recruitment

Assist with staff coverage including lunches, absences, staff leaves·

Monitor and manage the menus at the centre ensuring a nutritional menu is provided each day. ·

Oversee and assist in the programming and observations of each group Interactions

Ensure all new parents and children are orientated into the centre upon enrollment.

Hold regular staff, group leader and assistant meetings to ensure open communication channels display a positive, supportive attitude to all staff members. ·

Meet with the Board of Directors on a monthly basis. ·

Conduct annual performance reviews on all staff, including the “Staff/Child Interaction Scale”.

Promote the quality care, vision/mission statement and education within the centre.

Oversee children’s well-being and support parents as needed.

Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment

Oversee site maintenance including facilitating identification of site issues and coordination of relevant service providers

Selection Criteria ·

2 years of management experience in childcare is preferred

Experience working with preschool age children and has relevant knowledge of early years programming and curriculum

Demonstrated knowledge of financial management including budget development and review of expenditure against budget, utilization, and staffing levels.

Ability to work collaboratively with respect to families, program educators, volunteers, and others.

Strong leadership and staff management skills

Strong organizational and administration skills

Computer literacy including excel is an asset

Effective communication skills both oral and written

Develops and fosters relationships with parents and educators

An Early Childhood Educator (ELCC) Level 3 is an asset or relevant experience/education

A current Criminal Check & Vulnerable Sector screening

Current Standard First Aid and Infant Child CPR

Up to date immunization and Health assessment as per the local Minister of Health Requirements.
