Job Description:
Under general direction, the Director, Ancillary Services provides operational leadership and strategic direction to the Bookstore, Child Development Centre, and manages contracts for food services. This position plans, develops and manages business and operation plans for the Ancillary Services department. The Director is accountable for the services and revenues generated in each department and for ensuring that goals meet or exceed business targets. This position is responsible for the management of human resources, budget, and external liaisons to market the products and services within the departments. The Director also liaises and consults with employees and contractors to assure the continuation of efficient and effective services and merchandises.
Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience
Baccalaureate degree in finance, business administration, marketing or related discipline. Masters in Business Administration preferred.
Eight (8) years of relevant experience in a management level capacity in retail and service orientated industries. Preference may be given to experience from a broader public sector retail environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Broad experience in managing diverse business operations for the purposes of revenue generation and operational efficiency.
Experience in leading, managing and supervising in a unionized environment including recruitment, training, performance management and discipline of employees.
Demonstrated experience in managing an operational budget.
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, business planning and marketing.
Demonstrated experience in implementing policies and procedures.
Knowledge of current retail industry trends, supply chain management, production, inventory and business operations.
Experience in leading as the functional expert in introducing or migrating to new technologies.
Knowledge of issues and regulations in regards to copyright compliance.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing).
Ability to function with a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated through negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with employees, students, other post secondary institutions, external agencies and the general public.

Ability to manage complex budgets and optimize cost-effectiveness in resource allocation and expenditures.

Strong time management and project management skills as demonstrated through effective ability to organize, delegate, multi-task, and prioritize.
Ability to develop, interpret and apply policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Effective problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to use standard PC productivity applications such as MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access at an intermediate level.

Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat (PSEC).
