Director, Business Applications

Director, Business Applications is accountable and responsible to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development and implementation of the organization’s application development and sustainment functions. As a Business Applications Director you will guide managers, review project requests, timelines and costs. In addition, you will develop, distribute, support, enforce and integrate best practice, change management and technology standards across the organization.

Key Accountabilities

Direct and provide leadership in the development of the short and long term plans for the Business.

Provides guidance, leadership and mentoring to a team of Application Support & Development professionals. Supports and develops the technical expertise needed to meet long-term business needs

Lead knowledge sharing and industry best practice research to identify opportunities and innovative system solutions.

Establish processes that assign accountability for monitoring results and making necessary adjustments to plans and activities.

Establish manpower plans and operating, maintenance and administrative budgets.

Develop and provide recommendations related to continuous improvement and change management to the Executive.

Establish plans and process for needs assessments, process improvements and solution selections, designs and implementations.

Establish technology delivery strategies including implementation plans and change management strategies.

Act as the business lead in the negotiation of vendor contracts for business systems and management of vendor relationships.

Manage the design, development, prioritization and delivery of changes to the systems.

Manage third party relationships, contracts and service level agreements.

Oversee the support services including the timely support of business users and the development and delivery of end-user training.

Oversee CEO/CFO certification documentation and corresponding audits as is relates to Business systems.

Manage and provide leadership to the various departments supported, ensuring overall effective and efficient services are provided.

Determine roles and responsibilities and provide workgroup planning and communication sessions, ensuring a link between strategic plans and employee roles and contributions.

Monitor level of service and progress of projects and work assignments, ensuring compliance and consistent application of policies and legislative/regulatory requirements and departmental commitments are met.

Work with staff to develop individual performance, training and developmental plans.

Translate planned goals into results.

Provide guidance, coaching, feedback and individual and team recognition, maintaining a positive and productive culture that includes safety, accountability, respect, motivation and effective communication.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Bachelor’s degree preferably in Computer Science or equivalent and/or;

Seven (7) years in a business environment with at least four years progressive experience in information technology management.

Prosci Change Management Certification an asset.

Experience in project management, with training typically obtained through Project Management Institute (PMI) certified courses and programs would be considered an asset.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attentive to detail.

Interpersonal and leadership skills, highly collaborative.

Experience working with committees and work groups providing technical expertise and consultative services.

Ability to develop and maintain effective, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Exceptional verbal, written communication skills including an ability to use appropriate communication styles and methods to gain acceptance of the department’s programming or position with internal and external parties.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
