About Us

Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta’s full-service communications, public relations and marketing agency.

CPE provides planning, execution and measurement of communications efforts. Its expert staff provides specialized services acrossthe spectrum of communications and marketing from research, design, writing and social media, to event coordination, issuesmanagement, digital communications, advertising and public consultation.

The agency staffs the external communications functions in all departments of government and its operations branch, with a mandate of enhancing communications between the people and the Government of Alberta.

Role

Put your extensive communications knowledge and leadership skills to good use by joining a dynamic team of professionals in Communications and Public Engagement (CPE).

In this unique role, you will work closely with the deputy minister’s office, minister’s office, other senior staff in the ministry and CPE, and colleagues across government to coordinate and collaborate on all projects and issues that have a communications component. You will serve as a full member of the ministry’s executive committee.

You will demonstrate your proven relationship building and problem solving skills as a key resource to coordinate multiple demands with often competing needs. Your high quality communications support comes in many forms. You will provide strategic coordinated advice to the minister, deputy minister and the executive team. You will have influence when creating, planning and delivering long and short term communications strategies. You will have a voice in policy and program planning. You will be proactive in identifying and addressing highly sensitive media and communications issues affecting the ministry as well as promoting public awareness of the ministry’s programs and policies. Your skills working with others will assist in developing and managing relationships with a wide range of external and internal stakeholders.

You will also get the opportunity to help coach and mentor staff, and oversee administrative and human resource elements such as budgets, performance management, training, and staff development.

Qualifications

A completed university degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, English or a related field is required. Minimum of eight years of directly related experience with a minimum of three years at the management level are also required.

Experience with media relations issues management, leading communications activities and demonstrated expertise in developing high-level communications strategy is essential.

Project management and experience working with multiple social media platforms are considered assets.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Salary

$4,037.95 to $5,127.61 bi-weekly

Notes

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fillfuture vacancies.
