The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
Job Information
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Solicitor General, this position is responsible for directing the development and delivery of all programs supporting Community Justice and Policing Services in the Northwest Territories (NWT). This position serves as a primary departmental contact with community justice representatives, victim service organizations, the RCMP on matters concerning community policing and a variety of territorial federal government initiatives including the Indigenous Justice initiatives, the Integrated Case Management Program, crime prevention, restorative justice, victims of crime, community safety including organized crime, and justice-related initiative responding to family violence.
This position works within a Legislative and Policy framework and carries out its responsibilities in accordance with GNWT acts, regulations, policies, and departmental procedures including Department of Justice Grants and Contribution Policy, the Territorial Youth Justice Act, Victims of Crime Act, as well as the Federal Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act and Criminal Code of Canada and the Territorial Police Services Agreement between the GNWT and Public Safety Canada.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: An undergraduate degree program in the Human Sciences field plus seven years of progressive experience, including at least 5 years of management experience.
