The Director, Corporate Services (DCS) leads, oversees and ensures excellent outcomes in the operational, financial and personnel management of key hospital support service areas. This includes Material Management, Nutrition and Food Services, Facilities Management, and Environmental Services (Custodial and Laundry Services) at Whitehorse General Hospital and these services that support our community hospitals in Watson Lake and Dawson City. The incumbent works closely with colleagues on the Management and Executive Teams to ensure seamless day-to-day operations. The incumbent ensures provision of effective, efficient, and quality non-clinical, support services that are needed to provide safe and excellent hospital care; develops, implements and evaluates policies, programs and services to be consistent with Yukon Hospitals’ mission, vision, goals and objectives. This position also provides leadership, guidance and direction to support service teams, and monitors on-going team performance.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Strong knowledge of business and management methods and techniques, including personnel and financial management
Knowledge or significant awareness of hospital systems and operations as well as applicable standards, regulations and legislation (i.e., workplace safety, infection control standards, procurement practices, etc.)
Effective leadership and interpersonal skills to build and support teams and foster positive working relationships with stakeholders and partners
Exemplary communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to facilitate and present ideas and concepts
Strong financial and analytical skills along with the ability to grasp and communicate complex issues often in difficult situations
Strong organizational, problem-solving, time management and prioritization skills
Proficient skills in using computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office
Ability to demonstrate professionalism, self-awareness, initiative, discretion and sound judgment
Ability to make evidence-based decisions
Ability to plan, organize and manage operations, personnel and finances
Ability to prepare and manage budgets and determine resource requirements
Ability to prepare reports, manuals and other business correspondence
Ability to resolve issues, assess staff performance and development, and provide clear feedback
Cultural competence
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant business administration or non-clinical support services discipline with a minimum five years’ experience in a corporate services related role. The candidate will also have five to ten years of progressive leadership roles, preferably within a unionized and/or hospital/health care environment. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
