Director, Environmental Support Services (ESS)

Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (VIHA) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Corporate Director, General Support, the Director, Environmental Support Services (ESS) provides leadership and direction to managers responsible for in-house and contracted housekeeping operations, regional laundry programs, and waste management in the areas of service, quality monitoring and performance issues. Working within the scope of the Island Health Strategic Plan, the Director, ESS provides operational support services that balance client needs and financial imperatives.

The Director, ESS is accountable for providing leadership and direction in the administration of quality measurement and evaluation of vendor performance for contracted services. The Director acts as the Island Health liaison with senior contractor management to develop/modify service level agreements, to resolve any issues arising from the contracted services, and to ensure contractual obligations are provided.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field, completion of courses in health care management and ten (10) years’ recent experience in service and contract management in health facilities. Prior management experience in high volume healthcare based environmental service operations in both the public and private sectors is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to establish courses of action for self and others that are results oriented.

Demonstrated project management experience with multi-faceted projects and stringent timelines.

Use of a personal vehicle to travel between multiple sites.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
