Director, Graduate Programs

Primary Purpose: As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Graduate Programs informs and works collegially to set the strategic direction and the effective operation of the graduate programs, through the identification, planning, development and implementation of funding, resource and operational initiatives defined in the strategic plan.

This position has primary responsibility for the leadership and administration of graduate programming activities in the School with an emphasis on program growth in development in all areas.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Director of Graduate Programs works closely with the Associate Deans, Department Heads and Senior Administration. This highly complex and challenging role involves effective management of relationships with a number of stakeholders across the University, including committees comprised of professionally and academically qualified faculty and Senior Administration, as well as external stakeholders, such as alumni, employers, and other members of the professional accounting and business community.

This position exercises judgment and problem solving and provides leadership to foster a strong professional relationship among faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders and requires a level of decision-making from the routine to the critical on a daily basis.

A high level of concentration is required for continuous planning and for dealing with multiple projects with competing priorities. The work is highly unstructured and requires a proactive approach in a complex, unionized, academic/research environment.

This position is responsible for ensuring the continued success of all graduate programming (including the MPAcc, MBA, and MSc programs) within the Edwards School of Business; developing strategic initiatives which will ensure that Edwards has a sustainable competitive advantage with respect to the quality of the experience in our Graduate programs.

Qualifications/Expertise: A post graduate degree in business administration or accounting.

A minimum of 10 years progressive, related experience working in a senior leadership role in a University, or other complex, multi-dimensional organization. Understanding and knowledge of strategic planning, organizational development, issues management and the decision making processes in a University environment. Experience developing and articulating vision – a strategic thinker – that can facilitate dialogue, build consensus, and develop synergies with a broad range of constituencies in order to achieve common goals. Experience leading change and innovation to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Experience working with students at the post-secondary level, knowledge of the National professional accounting program of post degree accounting studies including the certification process for achieving the CPA designation, and knowledge of University of Saskatchewan programs and services, and experience working in a unionized environment would be assets.

Ability to manage multiple projects with changing and sometimes conflicting priorities. Demonstrated superior written and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively within a team and the structures of collegial processes of the Edwards School of Business and the University of Saskatchewan; possess strong marketing, creative thinking and problem solving skills; effective interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal; demonstrated vision, initiative, and discretion; demonstrated ability to motivate and support staff; effective organizational skills, coupled with the ability to work on multiple projects with competing demands to meet deadlines; and demonstrated responsiveness and innovation in addressing user needs.
