Job Description:
Reporting to the AVP Human Resources Shared Services, the Director Best Practices (BP), HR Shared Services provides strategic and innovative leadership on a full range of HR operational best practices, including data, process management, continuous improvement, HR merger & acquisition support and work intake prioritization.
The role requires a leader with a strong understanding of HR operations, process, data and technology, excellent communication/relationship skills and outstanding people leadership & influence abilities. Leveraging these proven skills, the Director Best Practices, HR Shared Services will be responsible for leading a team with a focus on improvement activities & data – driving operational performance and service excellence within HR Shared Services, creating the platform that will help evolve the HR Operating Model.
What will you do?
Strategic Leadership
In close collaboration with HR Shared Services leadership, this role will lead & implement the HR Best Practices strategy & roadmap that will lead to an improved employee experience, streamlined HR processes and enhanced productivity
Keep a long-term view of the strategic HR initiatives required to deliver on Sun Life’s People Strategy
Provide thought leadership and guidance around advancing new HR operations and capabilities that are value-driven and create operational efficiencies; remain current with industry advancements in Human Resources and continuously innovate
Oversee the project management of HR merger & acquisition due diligence and project related implementation workstreams
Data Analytics
Collaborate with HR Shared Services leadership and regional HR leaders to deliver data and analytics that drive business value
Develop meaningful metrics that tell a story and provide meaningful insights through data
Ensure data infrastructure supports future growth, scalability and integration of data for analytical insights
Process Management, Controls and Continuous Improvement
Lead a team who will maximize process documentation to successfully support the HR strategy
Ensure audits and control processes are supported in order to be compliant with regulatory, audit, governance and other internal policies and procedures
Enable and oversee the rollout of a process management framework within HR Shared Services, and scalable for global HR and Sun Life businesses/functions
Drive initiatives to optimize Sun Life’s HR Shared Services, systems and platforms to eliminate manual work, drive efficiency, improve processes and find alignment within our HR infrastructure
Provide ongoing strategic and tactical evaluation of HR delivery of services to ensure alignment with Sun Life’s long-term strategy, business requirements, competitive landscape and regulatory environment.
People Management
Develop the HR Best Practices function and team to ensure continuous development and innovation in key areas of expertise
Provide strong team leadership to motivate and develop individual and team performance
What do you need to succeed?
Demonstrated 8+ years professional experience in Human Resources with a HR operations background preferable
Proven track record in thought leadership, creating and implementing a holistic transformation strategy within Human Resource
Demonstrated people management capability with strong coaching and development skills
Excellent relationship management, collaboration, communication and influencing skills (collaborating, presenting, questioning, listening, writing, observing, consulting)
Inspiring leadership skills, demonstrated ability to manage change in an ambiguous environment, leading with “data first & data driven insights and decisions”
Proven problem solver, quick learner and creative thinker
Excellent change & project management, organization, planning and time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize work
Highly motivated, strong business acumen; strategic and results oriented with a continuous improvement focus
Experience with Agile & Design thinking & process improvement methodologies and knowledge of the full project life cycle is an asset
Previous experience with mergers & acquisitions an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
