The Yukon First Nation Education Directorate (YFNED) is working toward the unified control over First Nations education in the territory so we can empower our people in our ways of knowing and prepare our children to be active participants in the current world. We are seeking a dynamic, professional and innovative Director, Indigenous Education and Advocacy to join our organization.

The Director, Indigenous Education and Advocacy is an empowering and progressive educator who holds positive beliefs of success of all learners. You are a contributing member of the senior leadership team of YFNED and possess significant current experience as a successful direct supervisor, educational leader and operational manager of school-based administration.

We are seeking individuals with a strong shared vision, who possess excellent interpersonal skills and have highly evolved communication skills and abilities to work collaboratively at all levels. You will provide strategic, innovative and operational leadership within assigned areas, to meet our mission.

Preference will be given to people of Indigenous ancestry of Canada.

Steered by the Chiefs Committee on Education (CCOE), the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate was launched in the summer of 2020 in response to the long overdue need for unified control over First Nation education in the territory. YFNED is dedicated to capacity-building, systems and resources development, second-level educational programs and services enhancement, and learner supports. We advance First Nation decision-making and aspirations for control over education.

The successful candidate must:

  • Hold, or be eligible to possess, a Yukon Teaching Certificate and be in good professional standing.
  • Have a successful criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance.
  • Have highly successful teaching and administration experience.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and highly effective communication skills
  • Be a learner, thinker, innovator and positive contributor, working collaboratively at all levels.
