Responsibilities:
The Role

The Director, Live Action (6-Month Mat Leave) will report to the Sr. Director, Live Action prior to their Maternity Leave, and will subsequently report to the EVP, Content when the Sr. Director, Live Action goes on Leave.

In this role, you will be overseeing WildBrain’s diverse slate of original IP and our existing brands in development and production. WildBrain’s live action slate covers multi-genre from preschool to family programming and appeals to domestic and international buyers. A key focus of the slate is building properties to become strong brands and activate the expertise of each division to create successful franchise.

The Director, Live Action has the responsibility of ensuring production budgets and schedules are upheld. An important facet is maintaining strong relationships with key contacts within the television industry including; directors, writers, producers, etc. while forging new relationships within the creative community to ensure our slate and production execution remains innovative, timely and commercial. The position includes liaising internally with the WildBrain Business Affairs and Financing departments regarding the live action development and production slate.

What You’ll Do:
Oversee budgeting and scheduling on new projects

Work with production to oversee cost reports on each project in production

Oversee and contribute to building strong and experienced crews and talent on each production and for the future

Liaise between Producers / Executive Producers, Network Executives and Creators/Showrunners on each project to ensure production is executing on the goals of each stakeholder

Provide creative feedback on materials throughout the development process when requested

Liaise with Legal and Business Affairs on all contracts and agreements relating to live action development and production, including funding, broadcasting, talent, crew, distribution, co-productions, etc.

Create project Production Plans to meet creative and corporate objectives

May be requested to provide rough budgets based on development materials to gauge the scope of series early on

Monitor and remain current with the trends in production i.e. how we do stay innovative in our production execution

Supervise maintenance of development database, including payments and deliverables, option renewals, etc.

Work with the EVP, Content and Sr. Director, Live Action to do long range plan/studio forecasts

Qualifications:
What You’ll Bring:
5-8 years’ experience producing Kids and Family Content

Experienced producer with strong production budgeting knowledge; co-production experience a huge asset

An understanding of Canadian Funding System

Knowledge of all Canadian union rules/restriction—e.g. DGC, ACTRA, etc.

Strong contacts within the production and broadcast industry

Proven leadership ability; a leader who is able to manage up and down equally well

Ability to juggle multiple projects at a time

A team player, people-person, with an ability to work effectively within small and large teams

Entrepreneurial and self-starter who can be effective working independently

Ability to embrace change and persevere calmly when faced with difficulties

Excellent communication skills with a demonstrative passion for selling an idea

A profound knowledge and love of television!
