Overview

Do you have leadership experience in long term disability management, with a track record of successful team results? If so, consider joining our management team in Long Term Disability.

As the director of Long Term Disability Services, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the evaluation and adjudication of long term disability (LTD) benefits for workers who have permanent disabilities as a result of work-related injuries. This position provides leadership and direction to a standalone department with a dedicated director.

The successful candidate will focus fully on LTD department’s service and outcomes, while continuing to support a strong collaboration between divisional teams to ensure the effective implementation of WorkSafeBC and divisional strategies, business plans and policies in the delivery of quality, client focused service.

What you’ll do

As the Director, Long Term Disability Services, you will:
provide overall direction to the Long Term Disability Services department in order to meet all divisional goals are met and programs, policies, plans and services are successfully implemented;

provide strategic leadership and direction within the division; participate in strategic and business planning, policy determination and decision making regarding overall divisional management matters; represent and be accountable for the operations and outcomes of assigned departmental areas

ensure WorkSafeBC and divisional policies are appropriately implemented within assigned areas. Provide guidance and direction to managers and other WorkSafeBC staff on policies, business plans and other matters relating to LTD services;

promote a quality service oriented approach in providing services to external and internal customers;

liaise and collaborate with other WorkSafeBC Directors in planning program development or operational activities;

direct managers and staff to ensure achievement of divisional objectives and foster a strong team orientation. Set performance goals and provide feedback, coaching and developmental planning to support and motivate managers in meeting expectations. Ensure appropriate training and development is provided to assist staff in meeting operational and performance expectations;

manage the financial resources within the overall allocated budget for assigned areas;

promote the strategies and objectives of WorkSafeBC and the division within and outside of the organization. Represent WorkSafeBC and the division with various external stakeholders and interest groups as required;

research, analyze and prepare detailed written reports on operational and strategic issues;

remain current on the law and policy requirements for the adjudication of permanent disability benefits

Your experience and educational background:
A university degree in business or public administration, law, and/or occupational health and safety-related discipline and ten years of progressive, related leadership experience overseeing operational support services

A minimum of ten years of related experience in a leadership role

Strong working knowledge of claims management services

Knowledge of and ability to implement effectiveness measures and KPI’s

Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

We’ll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

You will be required to successfully meet the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and/or vulnerable adults
