POSITION OUTLINE:
St. Mary’s University in Calgary seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Director of Campus Ministry. This

position reports directly to the President of St. Mary’s University. The Director of Campus Ministry oversees and

directs all aspects of ministry within the university and plays an active role in conversations about the Catholic identity

and mission of the university.

The qualified candidate will adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined by the Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry

network; will represent St. Mary’s University in cooperative initiatives with the Diocese of Calgary, and in connecting

the university with the wider community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to collaborate with local Catholic groups and networks as well as ecumenical and interfaith partners.
  • Promote spiritual development for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Provide pastoral support as requested by students, faculty, and staff.
  • Cultivate a creative ministry of hospitality to all people within the university.
  • Facilitate community prayer within the university (e.g. Lectio-Divina)
  • Plan and coordinate liturgical events in the Catholic tradition on weekdays and as needed.
  • Help to plan and coordinate the President’s Volunteer Team (PVT) and its volunteering initiatives.
  • Integrate the basic principles of Catholic social teaching throughout Campus Ministry.
  • Provide a wide range of pastoral care for students with particular attentiveness to minority voices.
  • Deepen connections with other Catholic networks such as the Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry, the

Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities in Canada, the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care, and

other relevant groups and programs.

  • Develop the connection between the university and the St. Francis Xavier Chaplaincy.
  • Foster existing relationships with Indigenous communities, contributing to the implementation of the Truth

and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

  • Other duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A practicing Catholic with experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • The ideal candidate will hold a Master of Divinity (M. Div) or Master of Theology degree, but consideration will be

given to those with proven academic or experiential equivalencies. Preference for CPE training.

  • Experience in/with Catholic higher education, the Catholic intellectual tradition, and Catholic social teaching
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about interfaith work.
  • Relevant experience with university students or young adults from diverse social, cultural, and religious

backgrounds.

  • Attentiveness to detail, ability to think critically, and strong decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with social media as well as oral and written fluency in English.
  • Availability for evening and weekend service on campus and elsewhere.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license.

COMPENSATION:
