Sunshine Coast Schools invites applications for the position of Director of Instruction (Inclusive Education) to provide leadership and oversight for inclusive supports throughout the district. Our diverse learners, including those in all categories of Ministry designations, benefit from a broad range of programs and services offered by the District.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, which includes the Superintendent, two Directors of Instruction and the Secretary-Treasurer, the Director of Instruction (Inclusive Education) collaborates with school and district staff, parents and community partners to deliver programs to meet the unique needs of the learners. The Director of Instruction (Inclusive Education) has extensive knowledge and understanding of student support services and inclusionary practices. They are recognized as an exemplary educational leader with a strong commitment to inclusive education and lifelong learning. The Director of Instruction (Inclusive Education) will have responsibility for:

×leading the Inclusion Support Services team

×implementing and supporting effective social/emotional, mental health, and well-being

×planning K-12 educational programs in schools and throughout the district

×planning and implementing instructional and assessment strategies

×planning and implementing strategic initiatives

Additional role responsibilities will be determined based on the needs of the District and the training and experience of the executive team.

Qualifications and attributes for this senior leadership position include:

  • A Master’s degree in leadership, Special Education or related field
  • Demonstrated excellence as a school principal, or as a senior manager, for a minimum of 5 years
  • Strong leadership of district initiatives that support and enhance student learning, particularly with an inclusive education lens
  • Excellent knowledge of learners’ needs in all categories of Ministry designations
  • Comprehensive understanding of curriculum, assessment and instructional practices of educational programs K-12
  • Evidence of a collaborative, inspiring, team-building style of leadership
  • Evidence of using data-driven approaches to monitor and improve supports for diverse learners
  • Proven superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic, results-focused planning and budget management
  • A record of successfully working with parents, agencies, Ministries, and other community partners
  • Exemplary skills in problem solving, conflict resolution and crisis management
  • Eligibility for membership in the Teachers Regulations Branch of the Ministry of Education in BC

Situated between forest and ocean, the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia is located 30 kilometres northwest of Vancouver, stretching 96 kilometres along the picturesque shores of Georgia Strait. Offering ample opportunity for outdoor learning and play, the communities of the coast are easily accessed by the main highway between Langdale and Egmont. Our District Board office is located in Gibsons, BC.
