Director of Operations

The Director of Operations is responsible for optimizing building strategy and performance, physical plant operations, compliance with regulations, building cleanliness, risk management, safety and security.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Responsibilities:
Strategy:
The Director of Operations will work closely with the CEO to develop strategies and long-term plans to increase productivity at RSC.

Develop short, medium and long-term strategies and action plans for successful capital life cycle replacement.

Development of strategic objectives, determining capital requirements, and overseeing day-to-day support.

Define, implement and drive strategic initiatives to improve internal and external facing processes and operations.

Establish consistent and regular key performance indicators.

Leadership, Finance and Daily Support:
Provide leadership and direction to the Facility Operations Manager and Facility Services Manager including hiring, training, mentoring, coaching, and performance management.

Hold the team accountable for achieving established work-plans and targets through regular follow-up, feedback and coaching.

Empower the team to handle operational challenges and provide exceptional legendary service.

Collaborate with leadership to build an environment of collective responsibility and accountability when it comes to building operations, facility services, security and health and safety.

Demonstrate expertise with diversity and inclusion when developing future talent and leaders in the organization.

Oversee operational, lifecycle and capital maintenance recommendations, repair, replacements, expenses and planning.

Manage contracts, outsourcing and coordinate the logistics of all aspects of the supply chain including articulating scope of work, preparing Request for Proposals (RFP), and administer service contracts.

Building Cleanliness, Operations & Maintenance

Oversight of the Facility Operations and Services portfolio which is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of consistent industry practices to ensure compliance to all relevant legislation.

Audit, assess, ensure LEAN systems are in place for preventative maintenance and cleanliness, including proper historical documentation and detailed work plans.

Ability to implement LEAN practices processes and procedures to support efficiency and rapidly shifting business demands for Facility Operations and Services.

Develop, implement, and monitor operational processes and procedures to ensure attainment of business plans, budgets, established timeframes and departmental improvements.

Manages and evaluates processes and procedures, to ensure a high standard for Facility Operations and Services.

Develop and maintain preventative maintenance cycles for facility as appropriate.

Ensure proper inventory control and adequate supplies and stock required for the efficient day to day running of the business.

Minimize downtime for customer experience.

Ensure responsible, timely spending against established annual operating budget.

Establish key performance indicators to facilitate productivity, operational efficiency, and process improvements.

Compliance, Audit, and Safety:
Ensure that all relevant policies, procedures, practices, processes, and systems meet corporate standards and comply with applicable legislation and are consistent with industry norms.

Play an active role in the direction and continual enhancement of the Health & Safety at RSC and the Emergency Response Plan.

Lead our Facility Operations, Services, Health and Safety team and contractors in the planning and administration of existing safety programs.

Ensure appropriate corporate safety plans, systems, processes, risk assessment, incident and accident reporting tools are in place.

Conduct regular audits in the Facility Operations and Services department to ensure all aspects of RSC’s facility processes and practices are maintained and safe for all customer, tenant and employee experiences.

Ensure facility management, health & safety best practices meet Canadian regulations and standards for non-profit organizations and are accurate, secure and up-to-date.

Uphold all organizational polices, standards, ensuring legislation is followed.

Oversight of the Health & Safety portfolio which is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of consistent and Health and Safety practices to ensure compliance to all relevant legislation.

Cultivate a work environment committed to the health, safety, and wellness of all employees.

Liaise with the City of Calgary Risk Management & Claims Division for all insurance claims.

Other:
Act as the Fire Ward on designated shifts.

Qualifications:
Education:
Eng, PMP or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or relevant field.

Building, Facility Management or Health and Safety credentials, certification(s) or equivalent professional or trade designation an asset (i.e. Pool Operators license).

Working experience with HVAC systems and building automation.

Reading proficiency with building drawings.

10+ years of combined facility management, building operations and design.

Strong working knowledge of industry regulations and legislation.

Prior Work Experience:
Recognized expert in a functional specialty and has experience in multiple business units.

10+ years of progressive leadership/managerial experience.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrates expertise in providing organizational and departmental leadership.

Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills.

Proactive – ability to analyze and anticipate problems before they present themselves.
