Your Opportunity
In furthering our commitment to exceptional project delivery as a top-tier design firm, Stantec’s Mining Canada East team has an immediate need for a Director of Projects, responsible for the oversight of project delivery including direct supervision of the project management team, business development activities and an external client facing liaison. This role is accountable to the Regional Business Line Leader (RBL).
Your Key Responsibilities
HSSE:
Foster Stantec’s HSSE culture within the Project Management Discipline, keep HSSE and Safety in Design as primary focus areas for all projects and PM’s.
Review journey management plans and project safety plans.
Conduct project file safety reviews.
Prepare and present safety moments.
Annual HSSE Requirements (training & risk management forms) – self and team compliance.
Strategic Focus:
Establish client relationships, strategic partnerships. Travel to other offices or client sites (10-20% travel time required), interact with staff and clients.
Support Project Pursuits including client discussions, preparation of proposals focused on a project delivery perspective.)
Promote collaboration, cross-selling and work sharing across Stantec.
Conference attendance, participation/presentations (1-2/year).
Support development and execution of the Business Center Strategic Plan.
Operational/Project Accountability:
Foster a culture of Quality and Lesson’s learned within the Discipline and on Projects.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for project delivery.
Ensure compliance of project managers with Stantec’s policies, practices, procedures, and protocols.
Project Metrics and Resource forecasts – Reviewing the health of the Portfolio of Projects including actuals vs plans, project status reports, project GM, etc. Provide coaching to PMs where required.
Set detailed expectations on project execution, support Corporate PM requirements, initiatives and roll-out within group.
Review and approve project plans for PMs.
Identify projects at risk and participate in risk mitigation by providing leadership and facilitation where projects are at risk to correct and recover.
Participate in the risk management processes.
Legal interface – project related.
Personal utilization target of 50%, achieved through sponsorship, review/advisor capacity, etc.
Contribute to the development of Project Management and Project Services (controls, estimating, procurement) processes (also includes appropriate interfacing with those groups).
Support internal and external audits as required.
Reporting and presenting results in a clear and concise manner to all levels of the organization.
Employee Engagement:
Accountable for employee engagement and performance management including direct oversight of the project management team in the areas of Succession Planning, Coaching & Career Development.
Hiring – Requisition Requests, Job Descriptions, Candidate Screening, Interviews, Onboarding.
Provide mentorship to staff.
Resource management and workload distribution to ensure business financial targets are achieved for direct reports by assigning PM resources to proposals and projects.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experience in Project Managementp
Ability to multitask project management and business development
Willing and able to travel
Excellent client relationship and communication skills
Team player with experience building, leading, and managing a team of Project Managers and Support Staff
Ability and experience in preparing comprehensive budget expenditures, overall project schedules, and in planning and managing revenue and expenses for a business unit
Design-build and alternate project delivery experience preferred
Education and Experience
Twelve to Fifteen years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent degree.
On-the-job experience as a PM
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
