Job Description Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for successfully executing approved change initiatives within Personal Insurance, Business Insurance and Bond & Specialty Insurance within Canada and in alignment with the overall business multi-year plan and multi-year investments. Additionally, you will be responsible for all aspects of change management for projects that originate from or impact the business unit, including business readiness, planning and communication, supporting business and technology processes as they relate to Operations, managing and directing process improvements to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness and continuously identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies and understanding the implications of changing business conditions, while ensuring compliance.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Partner with the VP of Operations in Canada, and other Operations Senior Leaders to:

Create and maintain the multi-year plan (MYP) for Operations, providing analysis and reporting to support data driven decision making, management oversight, risk/change management monitoring and financial analysis.

Support the assessment and optimization of appropriate controls, service-level agreements, key performance indicators and management reporting to continually drive improvements to Operations ability to deliver consistent, efficient, quality service to customers and brokers and ensure optimal oversight for the VP of Operations.

Support Operations financial analysis, business reporting and communications planning/execution.

Develop a strategic relationship with all appropriate business partners to ensure alignment of the Operations MYP to broader business objectives and ensure the effective execution of the MYP.

Provide leadership support to Operational Effectiveness team members, ensuring best practices are applied and there is consistent quality of execution.

Maintain an understanding of all inflight programs, projects, and initiatives to appropriately manage the impact to assigned business areas and to assess and mitigate risks/interdependencies at an Operations portfolio level.

Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to policies, procedures and workflows including handoffs and monitoring with Business and Technology Delivery Teams. Ensure that these changes are compliant and implemented.

Integrate with functional areas to ensure policies, procedures, workflows, and training programs are well defined. Ensure they are executed consistently, while maximizing speed to proficiency and improving the quality of underwriting support.

Align Subject Matter Experts and Business Readiness resources to support Business Unit changes such as with process, systems, and product

Align project leadership and other project support to other initiatives. Ensure projects are properly scoped and cost/benefit analysis work is completed with a high degree of confidence. Ensure projects meet the business objective and are completed in accordance with plan.

Partner with Compliance, Audit and Quality Assurance to ensure understanding and execution of all regulations.

Actively participate in process engineering studies as a project leader or individual contributor assuming responsibility for major studies which potentially have significant impact on the operation of a major operating unit within the Company.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years operations experience.

Minimum of 3 years leadership experience.

Minimum of 3 year of project management and change management experience through the total project lifecycle.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

Bachelor’s Degree.

Working knowledge of property casualty insurance.

Thorough knowledge of insurance industry and market dynamics.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

Excellent leadership skills, particularly the ability to define goals, institute change, and develop a management strategy for short- and long-term success.

Thorough knowledge or experience with project, and change management processes and methodology.

Thorough knowledge or experience with analytics tools, including how to extract and analyze data.

Knowledge of insurance profitability, risk loads and other ratemaking concepts.

Significant knowledge of insurance operations – products and systems.

General knowledge of business analytics, finance or accounting and insurance fundamentals.

Advanced organizational and time management skills.

Advanced oral and written communication skills.

Proven ability to interact and manage in a highly matrixed organization.

Intermediate use of Excel, Access, Power Point and Word.

Ability to influence key decision makers to challenge conventional practices and instill customer insights into decision making processes.

Leverage lean Six-Sigma techniques to increase efficiency and effectives of Operations unit.

Ability to establish data driven benefit and proforma analyses to adequately assess business value of change initiatives.

Strong peer collaborator.
