DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for leading brewery operations processes on a regional basis, including brewery production as well as including brewing, packaging, quality, maintenance, continuous improvement and innovation. Responsible to sustain an organizational culture of quality and food safety through the establishment of resources, ongoing program support and ensuring program performance objectives are defined for the department. Directly supervises a team of senior level professional roles in Packaging, Maintenance, Brewing, Quality, and Continuous Improvement. Responsible for the execution and maintenance of various technical functions in the brewery including ongoing environmental, health and safety, engineering and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Business Planning and Strategy
Lead Operations team in developing and implementing regional operations business plans (HOSHIN) to support key national operations strategies. Ensure all Operations functions are aligned to support Sales and Marketing objectives and initiatives. Ensure effective alignment of business strategies between the Regional Brewery, the National Technical team, and the regional Logistics teams.
Responsible for the Environmental, Health, and Safety of the brewery and all employees within; Manage and implement preventative initiatives and programs in consultation with the National Health and Safety team.
Responsible for the engineering and maintenance of brewery fixed assets and equipment, in consultation with the National Engineering team.
Collaborate with Logistics, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, and Finance on new product development. Develop and implement plans to execute and meet launch dates maximizing revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction. Integrate these plans into the existing production and supply chain plans with minimum interruption and maximum cost effectiveness.
Anticipate business, system or organizational changes and develop and implement plans that ensure the readiness of the brewery to quickly embrace changes while minimizing impairment to operations efficiencies and effectiveness.
Create the annual operating and capital budgets and deliver expected results; Analyze monthly variances and latest estimates in relation to key performance indicators, production forecasts, and other various reports, in collaboration with, Supply Chain, Finance, and Sales and implement processes and work practices to reduce variances going forward.
Lead the implementation of national or cross-regional initiatives for the brewery, in consultation with the National Technical Team.
Oversee the development and execution of regional continuous improvement initiatives and processes.
Operations Performance and Optimization
Ensure that quality, production requirements, and business performance metrics are developed annually for the brewery and are consistently met as per goals and objectives.
Lead the Operations team in identifying and implementing operations process improvements to improve food safety, quality, and customer satisfaction and reduce cost, complexity, and risks in the area of Environmental, Health and Safety.
Establish, implement, and enhance key performance metrics, scorecards and feedback processes that assess operations efficiency and effectiveness.
Analyze production and operations risks and develop immediate contingency plans to mitigate risk.
Ensure operations processes comply with Canadian and international legislative requirements.
Lead Operations team in building and maintaining a regional quality and food safety culture and program including setting and communicating food safety and quality objectives for the team; and ensuring regular management reviews take place as required.
Build a High Performing Operations Team
Drive performance management throughout the operations ensuring that leaders and team members have SMART goals that align with business and operations objectives, provide ongoing feedback, assess performance and take action to address performance gaps.
Create a strong leadership team through on-going development practices that ensure leaders have the skill sets to lead the operations organization through growth and change; Identify and implement best practices to improve Operations performance.
Create a culture of continuous improvement that challenges the status quo, increases operational efficiencies and enhances work processes by improving quality, productivity, and reducing cost.
Employee Relations & Engagement
Role model Sleeman Breweries Values in order to increase employee engagement and maximize employee performance.
Build strong working relationships with union leadership to optimize company position in collective bargaining and maximize business outcomes by identifying innovative win-win solutions to business and union interests. Collaborate with HR Department in crafting negotiation strategy and play a key role in negotiations.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering required. Minor/Major Degree in Business Administration considered an asset
Minimum 12 years of consumer packaged goods/ production/distribution/food management in a large manufacturing company; minimum 5 years in a management role
Relevant experience in a brewery environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software and layout software
Knowledge of ERP system, such as Oracle R12
Experience in blueprint reading considered an asset
Experience in Piping & Implementation Diagram (P&ID) reading considered an asset
Demonstrated leadership in the areas of food safety, quality assurance, operations, project management, financial management, HACCP, and/or ISO level standards of quality
Demonstrated ability to analyze high volumes of complex data and create insights
Knowledge of warehousing end-use customer distribution will be an asset
Acceptable criminal record check
Ability to support values compatible with the organization
Work Conditions:
Travel may be required
Work is performed in an office environment approximately 80% of the time, and on the production floor approximately 20% of time
