As Director, Regulatory Operations, the incumbent Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight of:

Enterprise FATCA/CRS Office – Provide governance and oversight and ensure that activities and recommendations are compliant with relevant regulations, internal policies and procedures and that KPIs are met.

OTC Derivatives – Provide oversight on the development and execution of key controls governing the Bank, its subsidiaries and affiliates’ regulatory OTC derivatives requirements fulfillment, including processes and data aggregation; Lead remediation effort required by regulatory changes that impact BNS entities’ existing representations.

QI Program – Provide governance and oversight and ensure that activities as well as internal processes and procedures are compliant with relevant QI regulations; Tri-annually oversee the activities supporting the successful attestation to the IRS by the Bank’s Responsible Officer (RO).

Global KYC Affiliates – Oversee AML and KYC requests from correspondent banking and non-bank financial institutions located across the Scotiabank footprint, for entities & Affiliates across GBM, IB, Canadian Banking & Wealth.

What Your Role Will Be:
People Management:
Provide leadership and effective management to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job by:

Leads a team with a global mandate, providing regulatory operational support to all business lines at Scotiabank, enterprise wide.

Setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the unit’s priorities and Scotiabank’s overall goals;

Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge

Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout the teams

Operational Support:
Lead the governance of the FATCA and CRS programs globally, to ensure alignment with internal and external policies and regulatory amendments

Oversight of QI program; ensure alignment with enterprise policies and the implementation of operational changes to align with regulatory amendments

Oversight of OTC Derivatives requirements for the Bank, its subsidiaries and affiliates; ensure alignment with internal and external policies, and the implementation of policy and regulatory amendments

Oversight and day to day management of the KYC Refresh Affiliates program. Ensure alignment with existing KYC and Privacy protocols

Oversees the interaction of the Regulatory Operations and Controls’ functions with Business Line Management/Senior Management

Lead the creation of Governance policies, procedures, and operating handbooks and oversee the correct daily execution of these documents within the unit.

Ensures all KPI’s/KRI’s are met on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly perspective. Track FATCA/CRS backlog to SLA’s.

Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams

Ensures alignment with the FATCA and CRS teams located in country by working in close partnership with the Director/VP of IB AML Operations on defining the strategic priorities.

Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to FATCA and Testing requirements, defined procedures and frameworks, handbooks, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Regulatory Acumen:
Provide oversight over the timely, accurate and effective completion of all regulatory filings.

Lead the creation of Governance Reporting policies and procedures and oversee the correct application and execution of these documents within the unit

Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of applicable legislations and regulatory requirements across the enterprise.

Identify and mitigate potential regulatory and non-financial risks while adhering to Policies & Procedures.

Partner effectively with internal experts from Global Taxation to comply with regulatory requirements and/or solve identified issues. Engages industry or external professionals as required

Skills You Already Have:
Experience in Risk Management, Compliance, Audit or Regulatory Operations in banking or Financial Services Industry

Knowledge of the FATCA and CRS (AETI), QI and OTC Derivatives regulations globally

Strong leadership skills with experience managing and motivating a team

Strong strategic thinking and influencing skills

Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact with Bank Executives

University degree
