Position Overview
The AVP, Retail Banking is responsible for developing and directing the growth strategy and service portfolio goals for assigned branches within a specific First West region. The role proactively promotes the organization within the community; provides sales and service leadership, coaching and direction to branch management; leads all strategic aspects of the promotion, sale and referral of FW products and services; and participates in the development and implementation of corporate and regional sales standards.
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day:
Leadership: Provides leadership and direction to assigned branches through coaching and mentoring of the branch management team; ensures a high degree of employee engagement and retention; recruits, determines appropriate orientation/training and ongoing development plans; and evaluates the performance of assigned branch managers.
Annual Business Plan: Ensures retail branch sales and service business plans, marketing plans and operations align with FW strategic direction and long term critical success factors; establishes and monitors expectations for assigned branches and ensures annual goals and targets are achieved or exceeded; develops and implements solutions to assist branch managers in the execution of annual business plans, operational framework and overall performance and profitability.
Business Development: Identifies and develops opportunities to promote FW within the community; develops new and enhances existing member relationships; participates in community clubs, associations and events as an advocate to promote First West.
Risk Management: Ensures risk management processes and procedures are in place and functional to manage fraud, reduce potential losses and meet corporate objectives; addresses audit issues/concerns and makes recommendations for change, where required; reviews policy and procedure issues and recommends or approves changes and/or exceptions, as required. Ensures procedures with respect to confidentiality, credit, equipment, safety and audit/risk management requirements are adhered to at all times.
Financial Management: Monitors and approves pricing exceptions for loans and deposits within established guidelines; monitors branch profitability and coaches branch management on methods to increase revenue and/or reduce expenses; and completes credit adjudication within established limits, as required.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Directly responsible for supervising management level
Bachelor’s Degree, Related discipline or equivalency
Other Certifications, Designations or Licenses:
Mutual funds license (regional requirement)
Branch Compliance Officer
PFP or CFP Designation (preferred)
5+ years in a retail banking branch management role, or equivalent
Commercial Banking
Credit Adjudication
Proficient in computer software programs e.g. Microsoft Office and banking software programs.
Top Competencies/Attributes:
Demonstrated leadership attributes and/or experience motivating and coaching a high performances sales team
Proven ability to develop and execute on strategic sales and service plans
Proven skills in business development and achievement of sales goals and targets
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people
