We are looking for a Director, Strategy
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: London or Toronto.
The Great-West Lifeco (“Lifeco”) Strategy team is critical to Lifeco’s ability to navigate and succeed in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment, which includes changing customer behaviours and distribution trends, technology advancements and adoption, and the shifting global economy. The Strategy team supports Lifeco and its businesses across Canada, the U.S. and Europe, driving corporate and business unit strategy development, supporting strategic initiatives across Lifeco and selected business unit priorities, and managing the Lifeco Board’s annual long-term strategy review and planning process. This role reports to the Vice President, Strategy.
What you will do
Enterprise-wide strategy: support the enterprise-wide long-term strategic planning process, which engages the senior leadership team and the Lifeco Board in strategic reviews and decision-making annually
Segment and Business unit strategy: work closely with the business units, supporting selected strategic initiatives and ensuring alignment with the enterprise-wide vision and strategy
Strategic initiatives support includes:
Issues identification
External environmental assessment
Review of progress against strategic agenda
Prioritization of strategic initiatives
Financial modeling
Preparation of materials for senior management and Board meetings
Establish relationships with key executives and senior leaders across Lifeco, to support corporate and business unit strategic agenda development and execution
Monitor the industry and external environmental factors, to identify/anticipate opportunities or challenges for Lifeco
Support the professional development of the Strategy team, focusing on core analytical, strategy, and communications skills
What you will bring
Undergraduate degree in Business coupled with an MBA, or equivalent preferred; professional designations considered (including CPA, CFA)
Background in strategy consulting (from top tier management consulting firms) and/or corporate strategy at a large financial services organization
Minimum 4 years of progressively more senior strategy experience
Financial services experience preferred, including life insurance, wealth management, group life & health, benefits & pensions, and/or asset management
Strong business acumen, with demonstrated aptitude for strategic, analytical, and critical thinking
Demonstrated leadership, influencing, and relationship building skills
Excellent analytical skills, including financial analysis, research and complex modelling
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Expert in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
Experience coaching and mentoring, with a focus on strategy, analytics, team development, and communications skills
Some requirement for travel (project dependent; potentially up to 20%)
