The Child Study Centre at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Early Childhood Educator.

Classification: Full-time, MPA, Level 2

Starting Salary: $50,819 per annum (Step Progression: $50,819 to $61,830)

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Child Study Centre the Early Childhood Educator provides a safe and healthy environment for children, while planning and implementing programs which promote their emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and linguistic development.

As an Early Childhood Educator, you are responsible for supervising children both in a playroom and playground environment, monitoring the physical environment, following appropriate health and safety practices, interacting with children to facilitate positive play. You will also be responsible for planning and implementing programs as a team, and on an individual basis. These programs are to be designed to foster the growth of children in all developmental areas.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a trained Early Childhood Educator with a level 2 certification or above. They will have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with children in an ECE classroom, specific work experience with children below three years of age is an asset. They will be familiar with the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework and have experience working with children using an emergent curriculum approach. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will be familiar with observing children and recording these observations to create relevant curriculum experiences in the classroom. The candidate will demonstrate a genuine appreciation for children and their abilities. Experience with pedagogical documentation would be an asset. The candidate must be able to work as part of a team of educators and to work cooperatively and sensitively with families. Willingness to continue with professional development and education is a must. First Aid and CPR certification is also required. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Child Abuse Registry check and Criminal Records check. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
