Reporting to the Manager, Partnerships & Education Resources, the Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for developing resources for Ocean Wise Youth’s new climate change education program, Waves of Change, that focuses on ocean and climate literacy among K-12 youth. The resources will include content from Ocean Wise’s Conservation work and draw clear links to a variety of daily actions and behaviors that lead to positive impacts on the ocean. These resources are intended to supplement Canadian and international school curriculum for K-12 while also drawing connections to global frameworks such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to resource development, this position will support Ocean Wise’s Youth programs by assisting with bookings, delivery and evaluation for a diverse audience of participants across Canada and abroad.
This is a one-year contract position with the opportunity for extension based on funding.
Key Accountabilities
Advance Ocean Wise Youth resources and programs by:
Scan and analyze current available ocean conservation resources to formal and informal educators and identify key areas Ocean Wise’s conservation work can uniquely supplement learning outcomes.
Apply an in-depth understanding of key pedagogical theories and best practices of asynchronous and synchronous resource development.
Work closely with Ocean Wise’s conservation initiatives to develop resources focused on ocean and climate literacy.
Collaborating with teachers to create and evaluate education resources;
As needed, deliver Ocean Wise Youth programs to large and small groups, including participants online and in-person in formal and informal settings;
Maintain a good working knowledge of marine animals, ecosystems and conservation issues;
Provide excellent customer service and support to all Ocean Wise Youth program clients (principals, teachers, event organizers, participants);
Track and maintain program and resource feedback records and relevant statistics;
May be cross-trained to deliver any Education programs as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or Conservation;
1-2 years’ experience in formal and informal education and pedagogy;
Experience educating and working with K-12 audiences;
Knowledge of marine and aquatic habitats, and conservation issues;
Capable and comfortable driving fleet vehicles (minivan, pickup trucks);
Valid BC driver’s license in good standing;
Experience implementing and evaluating innovative educational programs.
Skills
Strong preference for candidates who can demonstrate fluency in French with strong verbal and written French communication;
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and presentation skills;
Ability to work as a cooperative member of a dynamic team, as well as independently;
Strong problem solving and organizational skills, must be creative, flexible, and enthusiastic with a positive attitude;
Strong customer service skills and able to interact with people of all ages;
Actively demonstrates the organization’s goals, values and mission;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs;
Working knowledge of video conferencing platforms such as MS Teams, Zoom, Webex
Working Conditions:
Workdays could involve long hours and early mornings; flexible schedule (including weekends and holidays);
Lifting heavy objects on a daily basis – applicants must be able to lift and move 20 Kgs to chest level;
Some travelling may be required; up to two weeks at a time away from home for Mobile Programs;
Exposure to seasonal temperature fluctuations in outdoor working areas;
Shared work space in a team environment open concept office environment.
