Under the supervision of the Manager of Resources, the Education Liaison will be responsible for improving educational outcomes for children and youth in customary care, alternative care, kinship care/services and support for youth. All actions are performed according to the mission, vision, values, philosophy and strategic directions of the Agency.
Service Responsibilities:
- Help resolve issues that impact eligible children and youth’s learning, and strengthen relationships among societies, public school boards, First Nations school authorities and community partners.
- Ensure program eligibility criteria are met. * Liaise with internal and external professionals as required, including but not limited to: schools, societies, eligible children and youth and their caregivers.
- Identify priority needs, populations and supports required to improve the educational outcomes of children and youth in care. * Leverage existing resources in the child welfare and education systems.
- Helps families involved with: child welfare, youth in care or customary care, with services that are supportive, educational, and empowering. * Ensure the safety and well-being of the child while under their care
- Provide notes, and required documentation to in a timely fashion
- Establish healthy relationships, act as a positive role model by using appropriate behavior and language
Supportive Responsibilities:
- Provide support to supervisors and child welfare staff in creating and understanding the required educational conditions and culturally responsive system navigation necessary to support the educational success of all children and youth in care.
- Ensure that clients records and notes are current
- Follow relevant legislation, Agency Policies, Standards & Procedures
- Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, privacy and safekeeping of agency records

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Must have recent direct teaching experience (within the last 5 years) as a registered teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
Minimum Experience as a school administrator preferred
Minimum experience with special education coursework or designation preferred
Other Requirements:
Respect for, sensitivity towards, as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishinabek culture, traditions and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
Knowledge of the Child Youth and Family Services Act
Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs and traditions in relation to Child Protection
Knowledge of external services and service agencies
Must provide a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
Must have a Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel
Must have $1M auto insurance liability coverage
