Education & Outreach Assistant
Western Canada Theatre is searching for two (2) EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ASSISTANTS, funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, to work with our Director of Education & Outreach on summer and fall programming.
The successful candidates will assist with planning, creating, and executing spring and summer arts educational programming and related marketing and outreach activities. The students will be involved in: outreach to schools and to the general public, including creating education and marketing materials and participating in awareness campaigns; assisting the Director of Education & Outreach with planning and delivering summer classes for children and youth ages 4 – 18 in theatre; and assisting with a general awareness campaign for our youth activities.
The students will receive mentorship and training in creating educational material, such as study guides; engaging in talk backs and tours with young audience members; creating outreach plans and corresponding marketing materials; and class room management techniques.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- First Aid training is an asset;

Position Details:
- This role is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Successful applicants must confirm their eligibility as of July 25, 2021:
o Applicants are between 15 and 30 years of age as of July 25, 2021; and
o Applicants are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred; and
o Applicants have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and are legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Successful applicants must complete & submit a current criminal records check, as they will work in close proximity with children. WCT will coordinate and reimburse expenses for successful applicants.
- The position has a varied schedule, with evening and weekend work required.
- Employment Term:
o Primary: From July 25 through September 3, 2021: full-time at 35 hours per week
o Optional/Ideally: From September 19 through December 11, 2021: part-time at 12 hours per week.
o Interested candidates may express if they are interested in one, both or either of the employment periods.
- Wage is $18.00 per hour, paid on a biweekly schedule, plus 4% vacation pay.
