Education Programs Specialist – LTC

Under the direction of the Program Manager, Education and Wellbeing, this position is responsible for planning, designing, developing, organizing, delivering and monitoring education programs consistent with provincial and departmental program applications and technologies; undertakes and participates in research, special projects and evaluation of practices and procedures for Long-Term Care and Seniors’ Services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the research, planning, design, delivery, and follow up initiatives of professional development activities, other educational modules and evaluations of educational initiatives.
  • Organizes face to face learning sessions and sets up learning environment and equipment as required.
  • Develops courses and curriculum relating to pertinent legislation, regulations, policies, practices, professional practice, technologies and skills development consistent with divisional programs.
  • Researches and conducts regular analysis, surveys and assessments to maintain current educational material and practices.
  • Implements appropriate tools to evaluate the effectiveness of education programs; prepares summary reports on participant feedback and makes recommendations or adjustments as required.
  • Identifies inconsistencies in departmental policies and practices, and recommends actions to remedy.
  • Acts as a resource to supervisors and staff on technical and program knowledge.
  • Promotes effective communications and public relations and works in co-operation with internal and external staff, management, vendors, contractors and other government agencies.
  • Maintains current professional practice within the education field, and program technical skills and knowledge by attending various courses, workshops and conferences, and participating in regular program service delivery.
  • May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours, as related to the Departmental Emergency Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a College diploma/certificate in Adult Education and diploma/certificate from a healthcare discipline preferred; or a related discipline or equivalent approved combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a health care environment or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering adult education.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in instructional design, analysis, measurement and evaluative methods, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
