Reporting to the Manager, Student Support; the Education Support Services Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for facilitating the integration of services essential to inclusive education into all activities of the Department and K-12 education program. The incumbent plays a key role in ensuring that the delivery of Nunavut’s education program and the assessment offered in Nunavut schools are accessible to all students. This means ensuring that those students requiring supports, services, or adaptations in order to successfully meet both the curriculum standards established by the Minister of Education and the expectations set out in the Education Act are supported. The work of this position is guided by, and fulfills, the mandate defined through the inclusive education requirements of the Nunavut Education Act. This mandate is to provide high-quality bilingual education to every student which meets their individual learning strengths and needs, and is culturally relevant and based on a foundation of Inuit Societal Values and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.

The Coordinator is responsible and accountable for:
Coordinating the ongoing implementation of inclusive education in Nunavut;

Keeping current with the legislation, policies, directives, speaking to the inclusive education initiative, Nunavut’s education program, home schooling requirements, student supports as it relates to students with special / specialized needs.

Assisting the Student Support Program Coordinator with developing resources to support the Educator Development Division and Partner Relations division to in-service school staff (i.e., teachers, Student Support Teachers, Student Support Assistants).

Assisting the Student Support Program Coordinators with conducting research to gather and analyze data related to student support services in Nunavut.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized Canadian university and a minimum of 3 years of experience working at any level within a school system where the incumbent acquired experience providing / coordinating student support and / or developing/delivering programs to benefit students or improve staff skills and knowledge. A Master’s degree in Education in Inclusive Education, Curriculum, or a related field would be an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
