Position Description

A skilled Specialty Systems Technicians main responsibility is to deliver outstanding experience, in all aspects, every time, and understand how he or she contribute to the organization’s vision of achieving that commitment to patients, families and staff. The Specialty Systems Technicians have the knowledge to maintain, repair and the safe, efficient operation of the following building systems: Building Automation Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Fire Suppression System, Delivery Pneumatic Tube System, Nurse Call System, Patients Beds Control System, Cable/Television/Play Stations and other electronic equipment.

Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:
Operate test equipment to determine the operating conditions.

Trouble shoot which may have caused equipment failure, determine the corrective action required and make repairs where necessary.

Carry out schedule of preventative maintenance on equipment and systems assigned.

Perform checks / testing on existing or new electronic equipment.

Response to service calls for nurse call/code blue, intercom and public address equipment

Liaise with the Plant Operations department and Facilities Planning department with the selection and installation of new equipment.

Understand and use all safety equipment and protective clothing as required.

Provides departmental staff assistance / expertise as required.

Responsible for reporting risk management issues pertaining to electronic equipment within the hospital.

Perform duties with a high standard of safety, work habits and housekeeping practices.

Responsible to coordinate and schedule nurse call/code blue annual maintenance, testing and verification of overall system amongst hospital staff, IT department and 3rd party vendor service provider.

Coordinate with the Plant Operations Manager/Director of Facilities to standardize the purchasing of electronic equipment.

Maintain adequate inventory of spare parts for equipment service.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
Academic or vocational-Grade 12.

Diploma as an Electronic Technician.

Professional Registration Required: Must be certified by O.A.C.E.TT. as an electronic Technician

3 years experience as an electronics technician with relevant working knowledge of the following systems: Nurse call, Pneumatic Tube Delivery, Fire Alarm, Building Automation, Audio/Visual, Television, video game consoles (Play Station), Intercom and Overhead Paging.

Must be competent in reading schematics, using test instruments, perform root cause and determine best method of repair

Employment Type:
Irregular hours of work: 37.5 hours per week; overtime or shift work as required

Work environment (unusual hazards, irritants, etc.): May be exposed to hazards such as asbestos, Q-fever and products used in the course of their normal duties. As such it is mandatory that all employees be capable of wearing a respirator (as determined by the hospital Occupational Health and Safety Department). Physically capable to lift heavy object intermittently.
