Engineering Project Technologist (Utilities)
The City of Delta is looking for a qualified Engineering Project Technologist for the Utilities Division of the Engineering Department. The Engineering Project Technologist position involves technical engineering work in municipal infrastructure planning, analysis and design for the water, sewer, drainage, and irrigation systems. This incumbent will act as a Project Manager representative and assist senior staff in managing various municipal utilities related projects.
Under the general direction of the Utilities Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for: development and update of City’s hydraulic models, assist with the long term utility master planning and preparation of capital plans, prepare council reports and memos, coordinate with external agencies to obtain regulatory permits and approvals, prepare design layouts, detail drawings, specifications, construction estimates and contract documents for construction projects. The incumbent is responsible for managing consultants and ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget. The incumbent acts as a key liaison by providing project information, assistance and direction to a wide variety of internal and external contacts. Project priorities are established by a superior and within those parameters an incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in the technical aspects of the work discussing difficult technical problems, policy and budgetary matters with a superior. Work performance is reviewed by a superior in terms of technical adequacy, conformance to established standards and practices and achievement of desired objectives.
The ideal candidate for this job will have the following qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in municipal infrastructure planning and design
- Knowledge of common engineering design and construction practices
- Experience with Master Municipal Construction Documents
- Experience with hydraulic modelling software and AutoCAD an asset
- Strong engineering analytical and communication skills
- Experience in writing technical reports and memos
- Strong interpersonal skills
Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT), Technician (CTech), or as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). A valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License is required.
The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $42.96 – $50.76 per hour (commensurate with experience), plus an excellent benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan as well as a 9-day fortnight system.
