Our Position
This position is a fixed term, 24- month contract role based at our 1004 Middlegate Road, Mississauga, ON location.
As the Executive Director, Hematology R&D you will be a core member of the Hematology R&D Leadership team and will provide scientific, clinical and strategic input into the Global Product Team, Therapeutic Area Strategy and the Oncology Business Unit.
This role will help lead clinical trials under the Hematology portfolio development program and will provide clinical input into Hematology strategic initiatives, Hematology asset strategy and Business Development (as requested). Additionally, this role is responsible for partnering with the Global Product Leaders, Early Oncology leaders, strategy team and other stakeholders to maximize the potential for Hematology portfolio and for the clinical development delivery of the program.
Primary responsibilities include:
Partnership with the Hematology team for the planning, implementation and daily operation of drug development projects
Lead creation of clinical development plans and ensure cross-functional alignment on an ongoing basis throughout the clinical study lifecycle.
Present and defend protocols and clinical development plans at internal governance forums
Monitor study progress, ensure proper study conduct and adherence to the protocol, lead data review, evaluation, and analyses with support from Data Management and Stats & Programming team
Present study updates, interim results, and final headline data to senior management as required
Work with the team to various official and regulatory documents for Regulatory and other agencies, such as Dossiers, BLAs, INDs, Safety and Annual reports, handling of responses to regulatory agencies regarding questions about complex clinical development issues (e.g., safety or efficacy)
Provide leadership to the study team and manage and provide insight into the study budget
Develop new study concepts and drive business cases that deliver clinical and commercial value and meet reimbursement authority needs
Work with functional management to develop the plans and resolve issues
Develop external information on the product (including publications, regulatory documents, clinical trial registers etc.)
Report on adverse events per AstraZeneca’s policy
Education/work experience required for the role:
PhD in Medical specialty and sub-specialty training and certification required in Hematology, Qualified Physician (M.D. degree or equivalent) is preferred
Over 10 years of clinical drug development experience in academic/hospital institution or biopharma industry
Minimum 1 year of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
Deep Hematology expertise. Fully conversant with science as it relates to hematological clinical studies
Understands unmet medical needs, creates a clear path forward, shows how to win
Over 10 years of knowledge and evidence of successful Hematology product development based on strong science, commercial insights, market research and competitive intelligence
Demonstrated understanding of Hematology patient selection and stratification including companion/complementary diagnostic development and registration
10 + years of combined academic, cancer center and industry experience, preferred
Credible with Key External Hematology Experts, Payers and Hematology scientific communities, desired
Internationally recognized as an expert in Hematology field, desired
Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
Other requirements:
Ability to travel globally up to 30% of the time. Travel to the Mississauga, ON office on a quarterly basis may be required.
The salary for this opportunity will range between $350,000 and $400,000 CAD per annum. Salary may be increased as a result of individual performance/merit progressively. Bonuses may apply. Health and dental benefits will also be offered.
